Removal men coming to do quote - questions?

Removal firm coming to do survey of house contents for our move next week. They will be doing a full packing service for us. Are there any questions we should ask them? What sort of questions will they ask us?

I've done a list of the contents of the loft but it's scarily long(In my defence we are moving to a house twice the size of our current one and we have been given a lot of stuff for the new place). Better to give them my list or have a look up there themselves? (Don't think it looks so bad if you just look at it).

All tips for the removal process gratefully received

One I wished I had known to ask, and always do now...

Right, Mr removal firm assessor. I am paying to have all my stuff containerised when you pack it up. When you bring it from store to my new house, will it still be in the original containers?

For us, with Bishop's Move from Edinburgh, it wasn't - indeed, they had someone else's stuff on the same lorry, separated by an imaginary line up the middle (so far as I could see). When I protested, I was told that it was obvious from the quote that this was the case, because there was no specific mention of moving the containers, just their contents.

Haven't had packing servie before but we had refurb last year so moved out....and then back in 8 months later.

We got 3 quotes, just walk around the house with them. Specify what from the garden will be going too ( eg pots etc ) they often forget this.

Make sure you keep the kettle and teabags out ( and sugar, natch). Ours had a devil of a thirst.

...And the roof space too if applicable - although I think you have to clear that. make sure if you are throwing stuff out or selling it etc you clearly indicate what that is and then you need to make sure it's gone!!

Most companies have been superb that I've dealt with over the years, but don't sign the 'contents received in good order' without endorsing 'unchecked' unless they have unpacked everything for you and you are certain everything is fine.

Personally at the end of moving I've always been too tired to unpack anything except the essentials, so I couldn't be sure for the next few days.

Thanks for all that. The feedback on Bishops confirmed my opinion of them after a colleague recently used them and said their export wrapping was a joke, plus they'd put wet mugs down on some lovely old furniture and left rings which were still damp when he touched them and they couldn't give a monkey's.
