Integrated appliances for IKEA kitchen

We have finally decided on Ikea for our lovely new kitchen but I am a bit confused re appliances. As they will be integrated do I need to get them all from Ikea? If so does anyone have experience of Ikea appliances - are they any good? Or can you buy appliances from anywhere that integrate into an Ikea kitchen? If so, any reccommendations?

Thank you so much!

I have an ikea kitchen atm and just bought appliances from a local shop.Have all integrated and none from ikea.HTH

We had an ikea kitchen in our old house and i just bought the applicances i wanted separately online.

I had a fisher & paykel drawer dishwasher which was hte most faffy to fit as it is not a standard size dishwasher. The oven and hob i had were just fitted by the installer no probs...these things are standard sizes so just get what you want.

I did it because i got better appliances, eg double oven at cheaper prices.

Aah okay thank you, so it's okay to buy from somewhere else, it doesn't have to be Ikea. I don't really know where to start though! Thanks

We had an IKEA kitchen fitted nearly 5 years ago and had an integrated IKEA electric oven and gas hob. The hob has the Whirlpool logo so I guess that's who manufactures them. No probs with the appliances so far...

thehairybabysmum · 03/03/2010 08:49

i think the co. i used was called appliances online if that helps.

re where to start...go and have a look in currys etc for what you want and for ideas.

Do you want a double or single oven, eyelevel, separate hob or an all in one range type. Think about these things as your starter points.

We have an Ikea kitchen and some integrated appliances. Checked out I kea appliances but didn't really like them and they weren't esp cheap.

Got all ours from Sainsbury's Kitchen appliances - Bosch integrated double oven (housed in an Ikea unit ), Smeg 5 ring gas hob and Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer.

They had what we wanted at the best price. Still need an integrated microwave but can't bear to part with the comparatively silly money everyone wants for them at the mo, so still have a hole where it shoudl be and the nasty old one hidden away in the utility room...

The Ikea units take standard sizes so as everyone else has said you can buy your appliances elsewhere. I did get me extractor fan from Ikea though as I liked one they did. And yes it has the Whirlpool logo on so a well-known make

I got my dishwasher from Ikea when I got the rest of the kitchen. No idea who it's made by but it's really very good - much better than many of my friends' and it has a 5 year guarantee. Also you get interest free credit for everything for a year which helped me in terms of budgetting

minimoonumbertwo · 03/03/2010 20:03

Oh gosh yes i forgot about the interest free credit that's such an incentive, thanks ladybiscuit. Taffeta thanks for that, i was thinking of getting the integrated microwave but don't think i will now - they seem hugely expensive which i didn't realise when we planned the kitchen layout. Shame to have the microwave on the counter but still.

Will definitely be checking out Sainsburys for the rest, i don't know why i just seem to have a mental block about this so thanks so much everyone for your help!

Just stick the microwave in a cupboard mini - it doesn't have to be on the counter

minimoonumbertwo · 08/03/2010 09:33

Can you do that fanjolina? I was worried about microwave waves being all enclosed in cupboard - oh hooray if you can! Thanks!

I have the cupboard designed for a integrated microwave with a combi micowave just slotted in. No door on it or anything, its perfect. Only diff is a small gap around the edges of the micro but looks fine.

fanjolina · 08/03/2010 16:39

yep you can. we were looking at getting an integrated one, but they cost a fortune and I was pissed off that I had to spend 5 times as much for one with less functionality than I already had.

So we kept our current one and just stuck it in cupboard
We have left lots of room around it for ventilation, but it is fine.
And as you are getting your kitchen designed, just get a socket put in that cupboard.

minimoonumbertwo · 09/03/2010 10:05

Great, thanks fanjolina and runnybottom, will get a socket installed in that cupboard. Brilliant!

get a trial subscription to WHICH, then you can check out the best integrated appliances.www.which.co.uk/signup?jtid=55489322&source_code=809FHJ it is £1 for a month (you do have to unsubscribe but TBH I have found it so useful I have kept it going!)

I have just bought a new integrated dishwasher, when searching you just go to "dishwasher features" and select "full size integrated" and it gives you the best ones.

You can also select on features and ratings - so I then also chose one that scored highly on noise (our kitchen is open plan so need it quiet to watch TV) etc

oooh oooh sparkle have just signed up - thank you so much!
