Has anyone got a commercial dishwasher in their kitchen?

We are buying a place and will be redoing the kitchen. My husband is keen to get a commercial dishwasher as they do a load in 2-4 minutes so they use less water, energy etc and the noise of them is on for a tiny amount of time. In theory, it sounds great, but I am just wondering if anyone has one? If they are so great, why aren't domestic dishwashers the same?

Has he ever seen the size of them? I asked DH as they have them at work and he says that they are huge, run on a conveyor belt system and require a room of there own. They are quicker, but cost around £6000.Dh was a bit nonplussed as to why anyone would want one in a domestic property.

My parents had one in there old house, same size as a domestic and indeed did the job very well and quickly, however, they only have a plate tray so you either had to risk cutlery and glasses or do them by hadn. They have now got a miele which does everything in 30 minutes.

The ones we have looked at online look around the same size as a domestic one and cost from about £700 upwards - though most are well over £1000. So I think the one your husband described is different.

I did wonder about the glasses, but I figured that since they only take 2 - 4 minutes to run a load, that you would run the glasses separately to the plates. And then run the pans separate too.

Does anyone know if they dry dishes too?

But .... why???

I know you've given your dh's reasons but they seem really flimsy to me.

Why isn't a normal domestic dishwasher good enough? It does the job well for the vast majority of us.

I don't think you have a particularly large family?

I can honestly say, hand on heart, that having a dishwasher that takes an hour+ to do a load has ever inconvenienced me in any way whatsoever.

I am happy with a normal one. But my husband absolutely hates how long they take. In particular, he hates the noise of it running for so long. Our family is not huge - there are 5 of us.

I use a village hall for work regularly. They have recently refitted the kitchen and have a commercial dishwasher which is the same size as a normal dishwasher. It is brilliant for glasses and plates etc. I would love one as it is done in much less than 20 minutes. The glasses come out dry - hot but dry.

MrsPotiphar · 27/02/2010 22:33

shopalot · 27/02/2010 22:33

I have not tried cleaning pans etc only glasses and plates as soon as they have been used.

IlanaK · 28/02/2010 17:35

Thanks shopalot. That sounds just like what we want. But they are soooooo expensive.

They smell really horrible after a while, don't ask me why.

MrsL123 · 28/02/2010 18:32

If he doesn't like the noise, I know a great dishwasher for him - professional grade, too.

Ivykaty44 · 28/02/2010 18:34

thy don't dry and you need to rinse the crockery first - the cutlery you need to saok in a solutuin then pop them in and they will come out clean.

Why not get a domestic dishwasher?
