Bathroom lighting- do you end up with 3 cords hanging down??

Wondering how you can have different areas of a bathroom lit separately without having several unsightly cords handing down? And how can you 'do' dimmers? Working on the assumption you're not allowed proper switches near water?

What about a specific mirror light? Which of course would be above a basin?

How does one get around all this??

ooh, i can't help but am interested too. i would love a dimmer in our new bathroom, much more relaxing than a full on overhead light!

We were going to end up with two light chords if we wanted the bath end or the shower end of our long bathroom lit, i did not want this so all the downlights come on as one. I did get the specific over basin/ vanity unit wired in with a seperate waterproof switch inside the vanity cupbpard so when i want the bathroom dim i just put that one on alone , not great but does the job.

Our ensuite has two switches outside it, jsut by the door. Proper flippy-flippy switches, not pullcords. One switches on the main light, the other switches on the shower light and extractor fan. The light over the basin switches on separately with a little pullcord, which also switches on the shaver socket.

Whoops, hit post too soon.

You could do dimmers in the same way, with the switch outside the bathroom.

yup as per prettycandles we were talked to about switches outside but im a wimp and was worried while i was on the loo or in bath someone would turn the light out

We had a simmer outside the bathroom in our last house and will do the same here.

You can always have a cabinet with separate pull light if you want to have some control while in the room.

I have the switches outside the bathroom on the wall No cords

Our bathrooms all have the little over mirror/sink shaver type lights (ours are 10 years old so nowhere near as attractive as one on the market now) and the pull is discreet and the light is a gentle glow, especially lovely for a nice bath when you dont want a full glare
