'Please sell me your lovely house so we can have babies' letter

Well, not exactly word for word, but that's the gist.

Having finally realised that we've been total spanners passing up on 2 houses in our dream road (not entirely due to circumstances in our control, but hey ho), and there being BUGGER ALL else on the market, we've now got desperate enough to do a letter drop to all the houses on the street we'd love to live on, asking if anyone would consider selling?

Anyone ever written one - or received one - with any success?

My friend did this and the vendor turned into an absolute arse over price. he agreed price and then kept increasing it and increasing it and basically said''well, I don't have to move, we would never have thought of moving until we had your letter, so pay up or bugger off''

dont buy a practical house, hold out. We are still living in our practical house 7 years on as we have had so many down moments that means we cant move, and so wish i loved my house, but i dont

30andlurking, in both my and my parents' case it was a matter of a day or two - I would imagine that either people are interested and will let you know, or your letter's in their recycling already. Fingers crossed for you though!

we've had quite a few of these as have our would def react if we were considering moving. BUT those who have named prices were totally unrealistically which tends to put me off. i dont think we would be like elliemental's friends but dont thim that if you do it you'll get a bargain.

I am tempted to do this to our neighbour's house.

We love our road but their house is bigger than ours. They had it on the market for a good price at the bottom of the slump but never sold it. Keep wondering if they will put it on again, maybe I should just ask..

We sometimes get letters like this.

One that I would have considered actually came from the potential buyer's solicitor. It was very polite, and stated that the buyer was genuinely interested in our particular house and had funds in place.

We've done it 3 times in 7 months. We had very few responses that were always within 48 hrs - always wanting well over the odds for the houses and of the 'we don't have to move' tone. One man even rang to tell me about his great house that he was not prepared to sell.

We're thinking of doing it again but to be honest I think it's a waste of time - and it's always me rather than DH who has to do it...

I'm impressed that people would sell. Impressed and pleased!

Well they don't seem to be here... sigh. Negotiations on the practical house of no soul look set to begin!
