we have victorian terrace, bedroom 3 is above kitchen at back of house , these rooms are cold and damp. They are built with single skin of bricks and have airbricks and no radiators.I think that we really need a damp course but cant afford it at the moment. Does anyone have any diy temporary fix ideas to minimise damp.

Dehumidifier ? If you can run to a good one, then they don't cost that much to run, and make a huge difference, especially if you are drying clothes indoors (put clothes on an airer set over the dehum). We have a Mitshubishi, and it turned our old house from a black mould haven to a nice house again.

Giving the bedrooms an airing in the morning after getting up will help too, plus keeping lids on saucepans when cooking, making sure the bathroom door is kept shut with the extractor fan on/window open after showers or baths etc to cut down the moisture getting released into the house.

A damp course won't make any difference to second storey damp - but it would be a good idea to get the guttering checked in case water is getting into the wall that way
