Anyone got a mega-flow boiler? What's it like?

Been inundated with advice!:

We need to get 2 showers sorted (elderly and low pressure) and were planning electric showers in both, but we're told that we could overload the main fuse if we use both at the same time! We aren't keen on a pump because a) they apparently drain the hot water tank fast and b) the noise

SO the suggestion is replacing the current copper boiler with a megaflow one so the showers will run at mains pressure. We've been told it'll cost £1000-ish. Bear in mind that apparently running a 40W cable from the fuse box to one shower will cost 'hundreds' so it might be worth doing.

Presumably a megaflow runs from the gas supply like the existing hotwater system? And the system is non-vented? Which I think means there's no need for an expansion header tank in the loft anymore?

We won't get a combi because the house is too big!

Any thoughts very welcome.

Megaflo is a hot water system that is used as part of a pressurised heating system rather than a boiler. If you've already got a hot water tank then it should be fine - it's basically a souped-up version. I LOVE mine - no finding the shower petering out because someone else in the house has run a tap. We only have ours on for two half hours a day and that gives us enough hot water for two showers in the morning and kids' baths at night plus domestic bits and pieces in between. Would be very reluctant to go back to combi system.

OK, thanks! I was thinking that 'all' the bloke (who is an electrician) thought we'd need was to replace the copper tank in the airing cupboard with a bigger 'mega flow' one and do away with the header tank in the attic.

I've never had to deal with hot water AND heating before! All a mystery to me!

I've got a megaflo - but my water pressure is rubbish. This is because the pipe that goes from the street into my house is very small and old. Do be very careful and make sure you have the correct water pressure. I wish we had got a very big combi - big enough to manage two bathrooms. It will cost us £1,200 to upgrade our pipes.

We've got a megaflo - had a big house refurb and were advised by plumbers we could have one as they dug up the pipe outside the house as part of the refurb and put a bigger one in. I am very crap at this sort of thing, DH is really into it so I don't bother/am not interested but apparently its great. I've not noticed any problems....

In my limited understanding of it,as daytoday says, unless you have a wide pipe coming into your house the pressure will not be good, so not worth it.

I don't know how big your house is but I am hopefully moving into a 4 bed house and my friend has a 4 bed with 2 en-suites and a family bathroom and she has (and I am getting) a Worcester Bosch combi but it preheats the water so the flow is much faster and you can run 2 showers at the same time.

I think it is the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 42CDi but I might be wrong.

I like instant hot water and only heating what I use. But I have heard that mega-flow is good.

My Mum has one but also had to have the pipes to the house upgraded to allow for the system. I wanted one when I had the loft extension done but didin't want ot pay for new pipes to the street supply so went for a double pump which gives excellent shower flow and pressure in both showers. Cost me £350 for the double pump.

We've got one. Never had any problems. It's been in for 3 years. Always got good pressure and you can use all the showers/bathroom/en suites at once without drop in pressure.

We have that Worcester Bosch combi boiler - we only have one bathroom at the moment (also a 4 bed house) but want to put another in so future-proofed the system a bit when it was installed. I have been in the shower when DH was running the hot water and it was fine - a small drop in pressure but still hot.
