Does anyone have one of those steam shower cabinets?

What are they like?
Do you actually use it for the steam function?
Do you feel it was worth the money?
Where did you get it from?
Was it difficult to fit?

I've got one in the house I'm about to move into! Will be able to report back in a few weeks

ooo that would be fab!

We've not even got planning for our loft conversion yet but fancy one of these in the new en suite!

We have one.

Was a nightmare to fit - electricians wouldn't touch it as they said they are unsafe. So we don't have the electrics hooked up - therefore can't use the steam aspect of it etc.

I once used one in a hotel bathroom. I seem to recall it didn't get that hot really. Didn't seem worth the bother.

Katz · 13/02/2010 19:17

fan - did it come in lots of bits? ours would be going into a loft conversion

As far as I know, It came with base, sode panel, ceiling bit, then all the hoses attachments etc. The plumbers wouldn't assemble it as they said it was too complex . This after 2 days of staring at it and charging us for those 2 days of non-work. DH managed to assemble it HIMSELF in a couple of hours.

Despite the issues we had in getting it up and not now using half of it's functionality (steam, lights, radio - anything that relies on the electrics), I still think it was worth getting. THe alternative would've involved tiling room etc. I like having the shower contained in the cabinet.

this is the one we have

thanks - i fancy this one steam shower it'll be in the girls en suite which will become our master bedroom once they're bigger - just concerned about getting it up the stairs!

sode panel?? I meant side panels!!

Does the one you are looking at come as one whole unit, or do you have to assemble on site?

Katz · 16/02/2010 20:24

not sure - i guess these are questions to ask - that and making sure someone can install it properly!

We have it in master bathroom, also in the farmhouse and parentials are about to put one in to another farmhouse so it's safe to say Rollmops clan is rather satisfied by the beasties. Well, it's no real sauna (and I know what I'm talking about as come from sauna-land) however, a nice little toy.
Why on Earth would any professional electrician have a problem with installing the thing is beyond me...

Katz · 16/02/2010 21:07

may sadly be all academic - planning have said no to the loft conversion so not new ensuite to put it in

that sucks Katz

Katz · 18/02/2010 11:17

i know!

converting our loft is not in keeping with the street scene apparently. despite the fact that their are only 5 houses like ours, then there is a pair of semi's, some 1950's terrace's, a late 1980's flat and maisonette, a home to provide independent living for young adults with physical and mental disabilities (a large bungalow!) oh and then the rest of the road is victorian terraces. roof lines all over the place!

I bought one from eBay for £500, the size is 80x80cm, quite small, but fit under our staircase for a second showerroom. The steam is exellent and the ceiling shower is fantastic. The only fault is the size really.
It took my builders two days to assemble as there were very small instruction leaflet.
