loft insulation and govt grant

Has anyone taken advantage of the govt grant to insulate your loft? I had a rep round today, door to door not requested. I knew ours was not properly insulated and he confirmed this. The company is called Miller Pattison. He said with the grant it would cost £245 to insulate our delapidated double fronted victorian semi. I have no idea if that's good or not and I've a feeling dh is going to bring up his old we're too poor to be economical chant. I am worried about our heating bills and I'm sure insulation is a good idea. Anyone's thoughts please.

Have a look here to see what grant he meant exactly.

Personally I would not necessarily use a door-to-door firm but would see what the grant was actually worth and make sure I was getting the full benefit and the best deal.

Thank you QOFE. It's funny I had a look on that website earlier this evening but not until after I'd posted on Mumsnet. Posting here is a knee-jerk reaction. I agree with you I'll have a closer look at what we might be able to get.

I had my roof done by warmfront - I went online and signed up then they called me. It was £99 with the grant for a 3 bed semi. They were very quick and tidy and we are noticing the difference in the heating bills.

Thanks 86 for posting. That sounds good.

We had ours done last winter. I think I got the contact details through the local council. It was about £150 because we had no insulation. If you have some insulation the cost is higher IIRC.
