Have you got one? Any good? We're getting our bathroom done...

I have never even been in one

Yes it is dull I know but very very important

Chunkyrice · 18/01/2010 19:29

they're great, do it!

ImSoNotTelling · 18/01/2010 19:41

Chunky thank you so much for your response. Seriously. That is all I needed to know

I had a stand alone one previously I really liked it especially using really strong water pressure to massage knots and sore spots in shoulders and back etc.

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 10:43

Stand alone one = not sure what you mean?

Have been looking and there are some where you buy the whole thing as a piece but mostly it seems you buy the nozzles separately and array them around the place. Do you mean the first sort?

It's all a bit confusing

DH drives for a living and gets very stiff neck and shoulders so would be good for him I think.

Thanks almostreal

Definitely need a very good pump, otherwise water pressure won't be enough.

Also, they get hrough a lot of water so need to make sure you have hot water come on early enough in the morning, have a large hot water tank, or get in the shower first in the morning and make sure you nab all the hot water first!

2010aQuintessentialOdyssey · 19/01/2010 10:54

No. Mil has one. Blardy irritating it was. And I had a hard time showering the kids in them, as they got water pummeling in at eye level.

biglips · 19/01/2010 10:55

same as blametheparents - you do need a good pump and water pressure.

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 10:58

Right.

Good pump and water pressure etc otherwise it's be like a small boy weeing at you from a distance.

Quint i wonder if there are some where you can switch the side nozzles off so as not to blind the children. Will look into that as it's just my luck to spend £££ having the thing installed and then decide it was scary and weird and have to go and lie in the bath instead.

OP posts:
HerHonesty · 19/01/2010 11:16

really dont like them. bloody awful. MIL has one too! you spend have your time amending, changing, turning on/off. and even with good pressure its never quite as satisfying as a shower with a big single head/rose and good pressure.

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 11:19

Seems to be a theme with the MILs. I will ask DH what sort of shower his parents have!

Am now back to square one with love/hate split on the squirty shower front.

OK then.

If you were having a brand new family bathroom and a separate ensuite (oooh get me) what things would you all want to have?

Give me some ideas

I have 2 DDs 6mo and 2.5 so am anticipating extremely heavy bathroom use over the coming years...

A wet room. Tiles everywhere.
No shower cubicle, but a large at least 100x100 space in a corner, with a glass-brick partition and a shower curtain. It is clean, easy, no door, it doesnt matter if water is splashing, you can fit a baby bath on the floor inside the shower.

Double sink, large mirror, PLENTY of storage.
We keep the kids undies and pjs, and towels, flannels, in a large low level storage cupboard along one of the walls. You can have it so low that it doubles as a seat, or taller and it will be another "worktop" for you to keep lotions and potions, or changing baby on...

We love our new bathroom, can you tell?

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 12:54

Sounds beautiful quint...

You have underfloor heating as well don't you... I think we are going to have it in all the new bits hopefully it'll be OK. My mum is paranoid it'll spring a leak and we'll have to have all teh floors ripped up

No they are terrible water wasters and they really scale badly! Also they are just a fad and are a bit naff tbh

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 13:39

But I want something exciting!

What is teh current trend now that will be way naff in 15 years? That is what I want.

OP posts:
tispity · 19/01/2010 13:40

they are not for everyone - we had ours taken out of the ensuite and replaced it with a slipper bath (nice and quiet) - our cleaner would have resigned otherwise

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 13:42

What's a slipper bath?

OP posts:
noddyholder · 19/01/2010 15:32

They have never been stylish!

ImSoNotTelling · 19/01/2010 17:08

I need to break into someone's MIL house with DH and have a go in their shower don't I

OP posts:
almostreal · 19/01/2010 20:29

Sorry only just seen your reply by stand alone I mean an individual shower cabin not built into the tiles like a wet room.
On the one we had there was the option to use it was a normal shower or to have to side sprays on, you could also adjust the pressure of these too. was also very big inside and even had a seat, mirror and shelving.

Looked a bit like this:

When we move house well certainly be installing something like this in the master en-suite.

tispity · 19/01/2010 20:47

i think they are really unsightly and claustrophobic - dd once 'locked' herself inside one if i remember rightly. would you not rather have the freedom of a lovely wet room where you could splash about to your hearts content - they take some cleaning too, though it's a lot less fiddly

ImSoNotTelling · 20/01/2010 15:11

I have no idea what I would rather have!

Unsightly = it's a bathroom it's not going in the living room so I'm not that fussed. I'm more for function that form that way. Obviously something beautiful and functional would be ideal!

It's a bugger that we cant have a go in one of the all over squirty ones to see if we like it. They seem to have the marmite factor if this thread is anything to go by.

OP posts:
tispity · 21/01/2010 09:31

why dont you find a posh b&b/hotel through laterooms, book for one night and have a go?

ImSoNotTelling · 22/01/2010 18:17

That is a good plan tispity top lateral thinking.
