Huge and lovely drum lampshade?

Ladies, I'm having real problems finding a lovely big drum lampshade for our bedroom. The room is really big and I need one that's at least 18 or 20 inches. The bedroom is painted in F&B Cornforth White, which is a lovely soft grey, it also has silver grey silk curtains, painted black floorboards, white bedding and an old painted white fireplace. The wardrobes, chests of drawers etc are also painted in a white-ish colour (F&B Strong or Great White, can't remember which). There is a dash of colour in a massive picture over the fireplace, it has a bit of fuschia and turquoise in it. I just can't find a lampshade that's big enough, or is right to go in this bedroom. I don't want plain grey or white as I think that would be too bland. I'd be quite happy if it picked up some of the pink or blue, without being all that colour. Does anyone know of anything that might go? Thanks

Does it have to be a drum? How about one of those massive round textured ones?

How about having one made? I am toying with the idea of doing that....you could buy a lovely piece of fabric in the colours you want. Think there are a couple of people on ebay who do this.

Or is there a TK Maxx near you? They often have large lampshades - the one I am using in my bedroom at the moment as an interim measure is from there.

Can't think what they are? When I say drum, I mean very wide but quite shallow like this but diff colour etc

The "can't think what they are", was in response to Cyb's post. I've looked in TK Max but they're generally not big enough. I've debated having one made but I think it would need to be a silk fabric to match the curtains, but would then probably cost about £60 upwards for a metre of lovely decorative silk. The same with wallpaper really because the stuff that I like is always upwards of £40 a roll, before I've even paid someone to make the shade for me

I think that is the ebayer I was thinking of - it says she can make a lampshade using your own wallpaper. Might be worth emailing her to see how much she needs - if it's not much you may be able to get a (ahem) sample piece big enough?

DecorHate · 10/01/2010 15:10

Maybe I've just been lucky with our local TK Maxx then - I've bought several large shades, similar size to the one you linked to, there in the past year or so.

Do you definitely have to have a drum-type shade? I think a chandelier-type fitting would go nicely in our bedroom but fear I would never get dh to agree to it (too girly- he has a morbid fear of anything patterned or floral!)

kitsmummy · 10/01/2010 15:12

I think it's about 2m that they need, I guess I might just manage a "sample" that size from B&Q or somewhere similar, don't think I'd be lucky enough to get that much designer wallpaper sent to me though!

Have got a chandelier right now but the whole look is a bit formal I think in our room, so what something a bit more modern, hence the drum. The lighting is about the third expensive mistake I've made so far, following the chaise that I thought would be "perfect" (now back on ebay), and a feature wall (why on earth did I do that??) that I'm just about to paint over

kitsmummy what size shade are you after?

Pannacotta · 10/01/2010 20:03

You can get them made to order here
www.lightingworks.co.uk/products/

From the sound of your room I think a sparkly chandelier, perhaps modern or art deco style, would look very glam, is this an option?

Pannacotta · 10/01/2010 20:05

Sorry just read your last post about chandelier, though I still think a chandelier sounds nice in such a nice sounding room.
You coudl make it more modern in other ways, eg rug/art, bedside lamps etc

kitsmummy · 10/01/2010 20:19

Thanks Panna, I need an 18 or 20" shade, will see if I can find anything suitable from that link you sent me, and thanks to all others too

They do sell this size, at least in tje shallow drum section (have perused the website, am quite impressed with what they offer and the prices not too bad).

Whats your chaise like? I am pondering getting one for our bedroom (which is a long way off being ready), is it already on ebay?
