Wondered if any of you have had kitchens installed that (including oven and hob - ideally induction) comes in well under 8k, closer to 5 if poss, whilst looking as classy as possible!

B&Q.

Yes. £7.3K all in, including fitting and tiling.

Local company (S Yorks), but I think they go everywhere.

Ikea and source your own appliances and tiles etc

I've had a quote for a solid oak Wickes kitchen, including a range cooker, for around 8k.I've told them that is over budget,so they are working on it for me.If we'd chosen a different design it would have been a lot cheaper, ours was the most expensive.I'm holding out til the sale ends at the end of February to see if they'll reduce it some more.

humptynumpty · 09/01/2010 21:40

sorry but i am at 8 grand. I think it is all in the finish, you could buy top quality stuff and have it badly fitted and looking crap.
i would ask others locally who have good finish/effect and find out where they got it from!

FuriousGeorge · 09/01/2010 21:50

Thats why I'm having Wickes fit it for me.I don't intend changing this kitchen in the next 20+ years so have chosen exactly what I want and having it fitted properly. My existing kitchen is 44 years old,and a bodge job- I've put up with it for 5 years-this time I'm going to have what I want and the job done properly even if it costs more than other people would pay-after all,I'm going to be working in it for a long while. In my experience,I soon forget how much something cost, providing I can afford it,if that thing makes me happy.

FuriousGeorge · 09/01/2010 22:09

ooh!Just saw an ad saying there is another 15% of the sale prices.Whoo hoo,I'll continue holding out & see how low they'll go.

Freyfreysmum · 10/01/2010 18:52

Thanks FuriousGeorge, they're coming out to the house (snow permitting) in the week for a design consult, then going from there.

My whole kitchen including applainces was £6.5 and it looks like a £20k one. My builders fitted it though

FuriousGeorge · 10/01/2010 19:44

freyfreysmum, you are very welcome. There is a thread on here somewhere by Splodge2001,I think, who gave me a lot of advice on how to knock Wickes down on price. The jist of it is,don't think they won't reduce it a bit more, just because it's already 1/2 price. You may be able to get another £1k off or free bits thrown in.

LadyBiscuit · 10/01/2010 20:03

I did my kitchen for just under £6k and didn't stint - Ikea solid oak cupboards and oak flooring.
