Bath vs Shower

Our house has 2 upstairs bathrooms + downstairs WC. We are being told that you need to have at least one bath. The ensuite batthroom is nearly the same size as the common bathroom. I prefer to have bath in the ensuite bathroom and large shower area in the common bathroom but DW says that is rather unconventional and not good for resale. WE have children and I think showering in a clawfoot bath will be inconvenient/less practical for them. So I want to keep nice bath with over hanging shower in master bedroom. My configuration means that we keep bath for luxurious baths. We are through with babies but I don't see the problem with future owner doing baby bath in master bedroom. What do you think about having bath in master bedroom and shower in common bathroom?

This straw poll could be decisive in what we go for in the end.

I meant in the communal you could have a bath with overhead shower? agree that both would look crowded unless you have a big room

HerHonesty - yes we could go for that option . Was thinking that a fancy clawfoot bath (in keeping with the peiod house) could be a bit slippery a messy for frequent showers by DCs so which is one of the reasons why I wanted to put the bath with overhead shower in master bedroom.

why dont you have clawfoot bath and all the luxury in ensuite and practical stuff in family?

HerHonesty- sorry that I am so confusing but that is my proposal. In fact the shower room in the family bathroom can also be luxury. I was only concerned whether people would find this configuration to be odd on resale but the reactions above have been a mixed bag. We aren't planning to move so think I will go for it.

oh! well as long as you have a bath in the family bathroom, what you do in the ensuite, as it were, is your business.....

Her Honesty- my writing is so bad/unclear - my preference is as follows:

Family bathroom: Large luxurious shower room with lots of sprays but no bath

Ensuite: luxury bath with wall shower

This might seem the wrong way round to some so I was looking for feedback on that unconventional arrangement. Despite some finding it odd, I think it makes much sense given:

  1. my children's age and habits
  2. trend in water use/charges
  3. my preference to have the luxury bath in our ensuite for occasional luxury baths - we mostly shower in our house.
  4. that we are likely to be in this house for another 10 years or more
