Can you keep your purchase price off those house price websites?

Is there any way you can keep the cost of your house out of the public domain? I know before they were made public, you could pay for the information. Was wondering if you can tick a box somewhere along the line so it is only made available on request.

Purchase outside the UK?

seriously though, don't think so, as it is the Land Registry that publishes the data.

Any reason why you don't want it published [nosey cow]

kwaker5 · 07/01/2010 21:33

Just don't want people knowing how much we paid for it! I thought you might be able to go 'ex-directory' or something?!

Don't think anyone is exempt- Blair's house price was published when he bought, wasn't it?

PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 21:37

No

suzybsue · 07/01/2010 21:38

There was a time when you had to pay for the imformation, but now you can get it for free.

Chunkyrice · 07/01/2010 21:41

I think it's possible to have information removed from individual websites, but i'm imagining that it would still be available via land registry.

MinkyBorage · 07/01/2010 21:41

no way, why, what did you pay for it?

JeMenFous · 07/01/2010 21:45

Ha ha, ours isn't on their, don't know why, we bought in 2002 and houses bought either side of ours, bought both before and after are on all the websites, but not ours

kwaker5 · 07/01/2010 21:50

I partly asked because I know some are missing and wondered whether they'd 'opted out' but it would seem it's just bad administration!

Not neccessarily bad admin. We put an offer on a place, the vendors were asking more than market value, so we checked the sold price (paid during the height of the market)and it was substantially lower -even when taking into account any work done and being generous with how much it may have cost.

We let the agents know this was the reasoning behind our below asking price offer - and any info on the property was taken off a major sold price website within the week. It's still on a few others tho.

How dodgy!

jeanjeannie · 08/01/2010 12:48

Must just be bad administration because I noticed my last house purchase is missing and that was 6 years ago. Very odd!

BigBadMummy · 08/01/2010 12:56

No you can't.

It is a matter of public record

Nethouseprices.com and mouseprice.com will list them within three months of the transaction being registered.

LIZS · 08/01/2010 13:03

nope Land Registry figures are published, but ownership details and title deed copies you have to pay for (anyone can download yours for a fee). The house price websites draw down from LR if a few months later. Sometimes they input the address oddly so it doesn't show up in the most obvious searches by postcode or address.

Ivykaty44 · 08/01/2010 13:08

It is strange that you can pay £3 (that was what it was when I last looked) to the LR and they will let you download someone else's property.

The information includes who the mortgage is with as well as the title deed information sating any cluases about the house.

With FOI and ID fraud i would think it is dodgy...[mmh]

kwaker5 · 09/01/2010 11:10

There may be light at the end of the tunnel for me! I have noticed that the Land Registry are using a slightly different address from Royal Mail (wrong postcode). It is new build so the LR have it as being on the main road rather than the side road it is actually on.

I can't explain why I am so bothered really, but we don't tell the world what we pay for everything so I don't see why the cost of my house should be any different. Interestingly, it was MILs first question when we told her we were moving. Maybe that has something to do with it!
