Does anyone/has anyone live/lived here?

Am debating offering on a house there (we are near Portishead at the moment but DHs office is in Weston) and would like to hear from peoplewith experience.

TIA

Wouldn't do any part of weston myself but one of the villages outside eg. Lympsham, East Brent, Mark, Weare, Wedmore, Axbridge and Cheddar are all good for schools . Or maybe Churchill, Sandford the other way.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 02/01/2010 22:39

I should say that I am very biased as I only managed to live in Weston for 9 months before legging it, someone else may have a better experience.

Have you read Bill Bryson's Notes From A Small Island? Maybe unfairly, but he's formed an indelible impression of what WSM's like in my mind.

saggyhairyarse · 03/01/2010 09:13

LOL!

Whereabouts were you WBN?

I've not read that Heated.

We live near Portishead and the kids are at schoolin Portishead, we put the house on the market to move nearer the school and now there are hardly any to choose from. So we have extended our search area to Weston as DHs officeis there, up to Pill and to the surrounds. But I don't want to live in a small village again because I cannot be arsed to spend 5 years breaking into the community like a 2nd class citizen.

Oh Lord not Weston! Grew up in Langford (near Churchill) and it's lovely around there. Axbridge area also fab (although that's where Gary Glitter used to live!). Weston really is a miserable hole of a place, I really cannot think of anything to recommend it.

Churchill school is meant to be very good, or Wrington has masses of young families and good facilities, a bit more like a town than a village. I don't think it would take that long to 'break-in', as it were.

We were pretty much next door to Clarence Park, this was 10 years ago though. Someone was murdered in the men's toilets shortly before we moved in which didn't help my peace of mind.

Had a moment of insanity a few years ago and decided to move back as we'd have been better off financially. Despite moving DD's school we lasted a week, luckily narrowly missing the armed gunmen holding up one of the banks in the town centre just after we'd been there having lunch. At the same time a friend was shopping in Tescos in Burnham and had to abandon her trolley due to a bomb scare.

As you can tell, I'm not keen !

Well, no, but justifiably so! So where do you live now if thats not too nosey?

I live on the hillside in weston and have not seen or had anything bad happen to us here.. we relocated here from edinburgh in 2004 and find it rather quiet in comparison milton can be hit or miss depending on which part.. feel free to ask anything you like..

milton primary has a good ofsted and worlebury too iirc.. secondary schools are not as good though so we'll prob be looking at moving to get into the churchill catchment when ds is nearing end of primary (he's only at pre school atm!)

i know portishead and clevedon from when i grew up in bristol (stoke bishop) so can compare a bit..

It is fairly close to the park.

Thoughts?

okey dokey... sorry for the delay in coming back to you... with a toddler and 7month old I rarely manage to get on during the day at the moment.

Firstly the house looks lovely in the shedule and you'll be pleased to hear that it is in the nice part of milton (avoid milton brow area which is off upper bristol road above the park).

But... my first thought against it was that it is on milton road itself which is one of the busier roads on this side of weston (along with upper bristol rd) which i suppose depends on how you feel about traffic? Also Milton road is a bus route along it's length from town right out to worle. Handy if you need the bus but not if you don't like them passing your door

It is a short walk from the park.. a good thing as ashcombe park can be noisy in the summer evenings with kids congregating there and i'm told by friends who grew up here that you don't want ideally to be right opposite the park on milton rd (where one of ashcombes playground/climbing equipment areas are).

It is also a really short walk to the local shops (the other direction from the park along milton rd) which is very handy for milk/papers, wedding dress/evening gowns! etc. and they're not bad shops either and nicely kept iykwim...

Milton park primary/junior is on milton park road (from the house it is left off milton rd itself only 2 streets down) so extremely near and very easily walkable... & along the level. with a slight rise heading up milton park rd.

I would buy this house if we could...
a: afford it
b: wasn't on the main road itself ( but bear in mind i would happily live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours )
