In the market for one. Does anyone have one and are they hard to maintain (i rarely clean my currentp ine ones) We have existing good carcases so just looking to change doors and add a few units - b and q 50% kitchen sale is utter bullshoyte. Anyone know anywhere else cheap but good where they have got one from? DH will be fitting ....

Mine is inverness from wickes and I love it!

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 28/12/2009 19:07

we were looking at the white slab in b and q - similar to yours but lon attached handles - im straining to see handles on that - are they modled into the doors? there is 50% off so i feel the need to know all....

OP posts:
nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 28/12/2009 19:09

arghh doesnt look like a door only option but nice allt he same....

OP posts:
navyeyelasH · 28/12/2009 19:29

the handles are in the doors - bugger it can't be door only.

I would strongly advise against B&Q kitchens hey fall to pieces. Ikea do a high gloss that we nearly got, called abstrakt I think?

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 28/12/2009 19:48

the one we have is b and q around 2000 and still in tip top condition tbh - we thought if door sizes same would easy transfer accross - anyway as i say their 50% sale isnt all its cracked up to be. Will go ikea and see if sizes comparable.

SparkyfartDust · 28/12/2009 19:55

we got B&Q cream gloss slab last year and tis lovely. Easy to clean; looks great.

lalalonglegs · 28/12/2009 20:02

Sizes not comparable at ikea. Save yourself a trip.

NickeeS · 28/12/2009 20:07

we have a gloss white kitche and it stays remarkably clean.

however we got it from Symphony kitchens, you could enquire about just buying the doors after all we are in a recession !

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 28/12/2009 20:46

thanks - that looks much like one we were looking at - our newares dealer is tecaz which is by far the most expensive dealer round our neck of the woods...... oh dear.

OP posts:
navyeyelasH · 28/12/2009 22:48

I think that wickes kitchens are made by someone else - you may be able to go dorect to them for the doors??

NickeeS · 29/12/2009 21:02

what about Howdens joinery, they used to make the kitchens for MFI, a friend of mine went direct to them after choosing at MFI and said they were fantastic.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 29/12/2009 21:42

Yes i see they do have one - calgary i thik it is - they dont open till 4th jan and sell direct to trade only so will right down what we need exactly and post it asking to report back price to our builder.

sparky - how have your doors faired up? this seems the cheapest bet now ... a neighbour has had trouble with her b and q kitchen where end bits of trim have peeled of and the likes - it isnt a slab one but wondered if yur doors have aged or frayed at the edges? can they taks some hammer? Our b and q one we have now is fine but as dh said they are solid doors not foil covered iyswim.

SparkyfartDust · 03/01/2010 17:35

sorry nappyzone for late reply.

really good so far (although relatively new), no complaints- however we had B&Q installers who were shite and managed to chip a few of the inside doors before even fully fitted. It's withstood 8 months of heavy handed family life.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 03/01/2010 18:05

thanks sparky - are the doors like veneer though or more sealed and robust.... i really need to go look again dont i

I have a howdens cream gloss and its still looking great after nearly a year. I wipes clean easily too.

splodge2001 · 03/01/2010 19:58

I've done a whole load of research on this. I'm going for Wickes Glencoe, but if you can afford it, the best doors are solid acrylic, they'll never peel off to reveal ugly chipboard. Parapan doors are solid acrylic, was told over the phone about 80 quid per door and they custom make

www.parapan.co.uk/

oooooo i wish i could have some of these

SparkyfartDust · 03/01/2010 20:52

They are veneer but I think they are fairly well sealed- can see weak points might be on the inside corners of doors.

It looks great and is standing up well to being scootered & banged into by children etc.

SixtyFootDoll · 03/01/2010 20:55

I had a cream Hi gloss from MFI (RIP) two years ago.
It is so easy to keep clean I love it.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 03/01/2010 22:20

Awwww i do miss good ole MFI - no sadly cant afford solid at £80 a door - is cooke and lewis solid acrylic? (still cant afford tem but they look nice) - anyhows thanks for your time . I am going to venture to howdens for a neb.

Wickes kitchens are supplied by Benchmarx.[www.benchmarxjoinery.co.uk].I have a thread on here re Wickes kitchens and a poster kindly told me that if you get Wickes to quote and then get Benckmarx to quote based on the Wickes quote,Wickes will match the cheaper price.I'm in the process of doing this on their Heritage kitchen,so will let you know how I get on.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 03/01/2010 22:38

oo interesting - i liked a wickes one but they did not do doors only which is what we are after....

OP posts:
splodge2001 · 04/01/2010 11:31

get doors only from benchmarx

cece · 04/01/2010 21:06

I got my kitchen from Benchmarx. I took my Wickes quote to them and they beat it plus the cupboards are pre built.

Docbunches · 05/01/2010 17:54

Splodge,

I'm just about to have a Wickes Glencoe kitchen fitted (next week, in fact). When are you getting yours done? We'll have to compare notes! We're having different bar handles than the ones that are supplied as standard. We're also having Wickes' Blue Pearl granite worktops.... which I hope will look OK.. I'm not very good as visualising the end result!

I was torn between the Glencoe and the Inverness (which I liked just as much), but the Inverness was very similar to a kitchen I had in my first house many years ago.... just shows how fashions come and go. I also liked the Heritage Bone, but it was more cream than white, and as I already have a cream kitchen (on it's last legs), I wanted a change.

We chose Wickes because they offer a 36-month interest-free deal, which is just too hard to turn down.

To the OP, I think High Gloss kitchens look great!
