urgent Q re cooker and bottled gas - anyone or their DH/DPan expert?

trying to sell a dual fuel cooker via internet, had an enquiry from someone who wants to buy it but wants to know if it will run off bottled gas as he doesn't have gas in his house

I need to sell it but I don't want random people turning up (am on my own) if there is no chance of them buying said item.

does this sound dodgy? or can you run "normal" cookers off bottled gas (and would you ever? sounds loopy having bottles of gas sitting around cluttering up your kitchen).

many thanks!

Yes. We have a gas cooker (just normal Ikea one) which we run from bottled gas as we're not on the mains. They sit outside not in the house! It's perfectly normal in rural areas. I don't know whether all gas cookers can be used in this way - think you'd need to check with the manufacturer.

thanks Daisy. definitely not something I've seen in London but understand why now!

yes - you can run a gas cooker off bottled (calor) gas, we don't have the option of mains gas.

BUT you have to fit different nozzles to the burners - to do with different gas flow or something. it isn't a difficult job (according to dh) and i think the nozzles should be easy to get, our cooker came with 2 sets of nozzles for bottled or mains gas. i would explain this to him so he can see about getting the right nozzles - and won't waste your time if he can't get them.

incidentally the gas bottles don't sit in the kitchen! they are outside and the pipe goes through the wall and connects to the cooker.

Just wanted to reassure you that it is normal not to have gas in your house. Annoying, maybe, but not abnormal!

I believe the man would also need someone with a specific qualification to fit the stove again.

hi yes change the jets as the pressure and calorific value are diferent, it must be installed by a GAS SAFE REGISTER ENGINEER.
