DD's bedroom colour...

To pink, or not to pink, that is the question...essentially!

DD is only a week old, but we've decided that we should sacrifice our computer room so she can have her own.

Just deciding now what colour to paint it - it's currently a nasty peach colour, so regardles, that's got to go! I was thinking of a nice lilac colour, so not too pink, but I'm struggling to find one that is light enough, but un-pink enough.

From this colour chart, what would you go for?

I like Wild Lilac on the chart, but int he photo it looks a bit pink, but I think Paisley might be too dark...

ohh i have a lovely pink, but not pink in my bedroom it's like something between rose water and delicate plum.

really nice, and of course if you go pale you can accessorize with other colours for now, or go full on pink should you want to later on

hang on, there isn't a wild lilac on that chart!

mistlethrush · 07/12/2009 20:15

I like Rose Water... You could easily accessorise with PINK or go for different colours depending upon whether they 'go' for pink or not - when I was 3 I chose pink, purple, green and orange for my bedroom and had wonderful flowers everywhere!!!!

Definitely go with the lilac, DD's room is and it's lovely. Lots of people have commented on how beautiful it is. At some point DD will want a pink bedroom and she'll get the pleasure of getting one, rather than just having had one all along IYSWIM.

None of the colours on the chart you link to are really right (IMHO). If you go to this page on the same site, choose the shade of purple in the middle of the red>blue spectrum you'll see a load of colours. The one I think is right is the top one in the fifth row.

MadameMoe · 07/12/2009 20:45

It has the delightful name of S 0520-R50B. On my screen it's lovely...

TBH you really shouldn't ever try to choose colours on line - the colour calibration of screens varied enormously. It's quite likely that none of us on this thread will be seeing the same shade on that site. Really you need to go and get actual colour swatches and blue-tac the short list colours up in the room. It really is worth it, even subtitle differences in shade can give a totally different atmosphere...

Oh, hang on First things first! What sort/colour flooring do you have in the room?

Naetha · 08/12/2009 14:43

Sorry meant to say that you can turn the page by clicking at the bottom right corner of the "page"!

Flooring will be carpet, probably a fairly neutral colour, but can tailor it to go with the walls. What colour carpet goes best with a "delicate" pink wall?

Furniture will most likely be wooden or white (Ikea Leksvik / Hemnes / Expedit). We're totally redecorating the room, so essentially the colour scheme can be anything you guys come up with!

Wood / laminate flooring is fantastic in a childs bedroom, so much easier to keep clean than carpet. Spills, sudocreme incidents and general baby slime are no problem. You can always add a rug for a cosy feel!

We have a walnut colour wood floor, lilac walls and white furniture. The curtains are floor length, lightish weight, white cotton and we have the black ikea blackout blinds behind them.

MadameMoe · 08/12/2009 15:56

Gah, I meant to say that we have the same flooring in our room too (and DS's) and it works well with each of the colours. Our room is a pretty similar to the Renaissance Pink on your chart.

My dd's have white walls with pale pink accessories. Its lovely - girly but not OTT.

titfertat · 08/12/2009 16:23

Lilac is lovely and unisex too. I also read somewhere that it's a good colour for a nursery as it's calming.

toja555 · 09/12/2009 16:17

I have DS and am painting walls in warm pale green... in order to stay neutral just in case..
