Can you have too many curtains in a small room? Help me and have a nose at my front room!

We live in a cute and perfectly formed cottage. presently in the front room there are no curtains, just blinds. Two of the rooms Walls are taken up by four windows, two small and two larger ones. There is no double glazing so the house is freezing. We want curtains to add more insulation but I am worried they will take over the room and cost a fortune.

I will try and upload some photos but they will be on my iPhone so won't be great.

What about plain cream or white curtains or curtains that match your walls to blend in.
Ikea curtains are cheap.
If you get lucky with sizes then charity shops are great for bargain curtains. If they were not the right sizes maybe you could convert them or find a cheap seamstress to do it for you.
I have a lined roman blind in one of my rooms and it is quite good at cutting out the cold too.

Had not thought of roman blinds. Cream is good for not imposing but I had hoped to inject some warmth and colour as the Walls are cream

That plastic film is a good short term solution to the cold from windows.

Morosky · 06/12/2009 15:48

I have been looking on eBay for some curtains, or I could make some roman blinds

Yuo could try the newer form of secondary glazing which fits onto the glass and edges rather than on top of the window frames, looks much better from what I can tell (am going to order some when I get round to measuring up the windows)

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/12/2009 22:10

Slumping to the floor now.

I have interlined roman blinds at my draughty victorian windows. Its a wadding type material that goes in the middle between the fabric and the lining.

Morosky · 07/12/2009 22:53

Thanks for that Jacaqueen, it looks as if I am going to be busy
