Glass splashbacks

Are they as easy to clean as you'd think?

And, can you cut them to put, say, a plug socket in?

I really (reeally) wanted [http://www.pimpyourkitchen.co.uk/examples.php?pageNum=1 these] the cow ones, but do was put off by the price, but they may be able to cut out the plug sockets, assuming your measurements are correct.

ScottishBoris · 05/12/2009 23:29

sorry these

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 05/12/2009 23:35

My goodness, look at some of those!!!

I guess I was wondering if it was something our builder could do, or do they need to be ordered with the socket spaces in??

H, searching for other things when this discussion popped up.

I'm not sure if its the correct etiquette or not, we produce fused glass splashbacks.

check us out : www.glass-lighting.co.uk

And we can do cut outs.

oh i so want them goldfish in my new kitchen!

Piffle · 06/12/2009 18:16

We got glass tiles instead
but if we could have afforded full glass we would have
yes you can get in made to measure but it costs a lot
tis great keeping glass clean though sooo easy and wow factor in spades

LordVetinarisApprentice · 06/12/2009 18:16

Oh they are awful! Sorry! Love the plain coloured glass splash backs though. I think you have to have the socket positions pre-cut.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 06/12/2009 18:33

Looking at the ones on pimp my kitchen reading th material i was expecting like perspex thickness but it seems more like thick washable wallpaper? Am i wrong? I still want fishies though just as a feature along the short wall our cokker is on then plain white along the rest.....

CarGirl · 06/12/2009 18:35

My friend has them, just clear glass installed over painted walls, looks fab and she says they are easy to clean. Def look good and they are at least 7 years old.

No grouting either!

sarimillie · 06/12/2009 18:40

Mary - we have plain glass ones; these come up a lovely milky bluey-green when the clear glass is painted on the back with multiple layers of white paint. I painted ours myself to reduce the cost; tedious, but no particular skill required. We got a local glass merchant to do them, and they did have to measure up and get the sockets cut before the glass was toughened and finally installed. Not cheap - even with me doing the painting- but looks great and is very easy to clean.

Hi, I had some fitted all around my walls and they look really good. Got a great local company called dgsplashback to fit them. They are not cheap but these people will do them any colour you want, including Farrow and Ball Colours. Go and have a look at their website, they have a really good Gallery at www.dgsplashback.com

DorisVinyard · 03/10/2011 12:28

We had some in a house we rented once. Bugs had got behind it and died. Bleurgh! Looked vile.

heggertyhaggerty · 03/10/2011 12:37

Oh please. Why did you have to start this when I've just tiled my splashbacks. Cutting round the sockets was horrendous.

If I had only known about these!

PigletJohn · 01/03/2012 19:42

acrylic is quite soft, but will also get burn/scorch/melt marks if touched by a hot pan

PigletJohn · 01/03/2012 19:42

sorry, please ignore, wrong thread Blush
