3500 quoted to install woodburning stove - reasonable?

We're in a first floor flat and want a woodburning stove installed. We've been quoted 3500 after a survey, price includes the stove, hearth, ripping out old gas fire, flue liner, a metal "box" which sits in the old fireplace - basically everything... I had about 2k in mind so was a bit shocked (I'm SE London/Bromley area). Apparently the biggest cost is the flue liner.

can anyone tell me if this reasonable. We're going to get other quotes but your help would be appreciated!

We have just paid £4000 for:

Wood burner with back boiler to heat all radiators and water.
Hot water tank
Shower and tiling
7 radiators
All pipe work
New ceiling to cover pipe work
Labour costs to install all of this

We think the reduction in fuel bills will mean it pays for itself in 3-4 years.

We do not have a flue liner though, and I have heard that they are very expensive.

I should also add that the radiators run off the woodburner are very hot, heating all 7 rooms and the hot water is very, very hot.

BUT when we had our old woodburner in with no backboiler, it only heated the room it was in, and the rest of the house was cold. That was a huge stove but did not heat the house.

Thanks Grendelsmum. I've never heard of a honeywell system before - will look onto it! I'll talk to the company about what heating we can expect.

milly that's a lot more than we're having done...

I'm hoping when we get the quote broken down, it'll be clear where the costs lie and what alternatives we might have.

This explains the Honeywell system - it's just a set of wireless thermostats for your existing radiators and a wireless controller, so it goes on your existing CH system and took my dad about 2 hours or so to fit.

They really are amazing - we nag everyone we know to get one, but people who don't have to buy tankfuls of oil seem to balk at the upfront price of fitting the system.

We have been quoted £1000 for the installation of one in our new house. As the house is only 5 years old we've been told we don't need a full liner. Going to have it installed in the new year. The neighbours had one put in a couple of months ago and they love it.

Igglybuff - if you email me on [email protected] I'll give you the name of the guy who did ours (not far from Bromley) - he is HETA registered, did a great job and cheaper than that. Come on here and nag me if i forget!

Thanks mcdreamy.

Grendel that sounds like just the sort of thing DH would love!

lordV, will email you now. Thanks!
