Curtains- how many 'widths' per curtain?

Am a bit confused: We need to re-curtain practically a whole house. I am keen to buy off the peg for most of them as it'll all be ££! Thing is, the ready made ones I see have a drop (which is self explanatory) and a width written on them: well, if say my window opening is say 6 foot wide how wide should each curtain be? Assuming one needs -is it 2 times the width? 3 times? Help!

I am keen on eyelet topped ones.

2 times the width, if I remember right

Fleecy · 29/11/2009 22:15

Yup - twice the width

TheFallenMadonna · 29/11/2009 22:16

Depends on the curtain. But that sounds about right for eyelets.

gigglewitch · 29/11/2009 22:18

agree it's double.

Jacaqueen · 30/11/2009 07:49

At least double the width. More if it is a thin fabric or you want it to look fuller.

So if the window's 6 foot wide, each curtain needs to be 6 foot wide- that's correct, isn't it?

Many thanks, all!

i think double looks a bit flouncy, i normally go for width adn a half

TheFallenMadonna · 30/11/2009 19:11

I like flouncy, but you might well be right with a tab top goat. I bet if you buy ready-made they'll tell you what size window they fit.
