would these lights look odd in a kitchen?

glass shade wall lights here

price aside - I need 5 of them - would they look weird? am going for slightly retro / old fashioned feel and think glass shades would be good. found some cool "american diner" style ones here if you can be bothered! however, two of the lights have dressers beneath them, so downlighters will just light up the top of a dresser which seems odd. currently have those plaster uplighter / wall washers but would like a change from uplighters unless i can find something cool.

oh also would prefer ones with a pull cord as is eat in kitchen and only has wall lights so useful to be able to change level of lighting.... not asking for much then!

gah, pressed create not preview.

meant to say because they are bathroom lights it feels odd choosing them for a kitchen.

all views and alternatives welcomed and feel free to tell me if you think they are just plain wrong.

Would it become annoying having to go around pulling five cords to switch all the lights on?

SlightlyFoxed · 22/11/2009 20:06

no, lights would go on with main switch, then could turn off whichever required as and when, so think that would be ok.

i'm not keen, but then I like shaker style and am pretty average with taste - if you like it, go for it!

Shona has noticed they have pull switches though. We bought lights with pull switches thinking we could wire them to the mains but we couldn't, not sure whether you can with the items you have linked.

I am really not keen on the John Lewis ones, and the others are OK but a bit 'meh' but I like:

Depending on what it looked like with the light on, I think this could be nice:

Or,because it is plain, this:

I prefer the diner ones.

And yes, lighting the top fo the dressers will be a bit odd. Can you get the positions moved ? (of the lights, not the dressers natch)
