Need 3 rooms doing, including ceilings - smallish sitting room, largish double bedroom, box room. Not in London.

I paid £950 for DD's bedroom (about 13ftx11ft), 4 years ago. We're Midlands.

oh balls - I had thought maybe £500 per room. I am obviously out of touch/a skintflint or summat.

Thanks though

I suppose it'll depend how much work involved though. Our walls were crumbling to bits so he had to bash all the old plaster off, but new boards on and replaster. Now if you need a bit of skimming I'm sure it'll be cheaper.

A daily rate would probably be within the £100-200 range, depending on experience, reputation etc

They can charge an absolute fortune

I fear the worst for the state of the walls. They are currently under 2 layers of wallpaper and a nice topping of woodchip. I'm not sure they've been replastered since the house was built over a hundred years ago.

I might get just my bedroom done

Labour is £180 a day here plus materials. Our bathroom was about £450 I seem to remember, 2 days work (there were very uneven walls...long story).

nymphadora · 19/11/2009 21:38

£100 for a ceiling here , walls would be cheaper (but DH does ours, just not ceilings)

GrendelsMum · 19/11/2009 21:44

We're paying £120 + VAT per day per plasterer plus cost of materials, but that is for specialist lime plastering.

We got a ceiling and two walls skimmed and repaired in about a day and a half.

We paid £500 for a double bedroom including ceiling (don't ask me for measurements!) and small landing, and really high stairwell a few years ago. Shop around.

I've inherited an old house covered in woodchip wallpaper and have the plasterers in virtually every room in the last 18 months.

My plasterers are lovely and plaster over the old woodchip as it is so old and has many many coats of paint. They have charged £250 per room including ceilings (rooms around 5mx4m) apart from one room where the ceiling needed reboarding so it cost £350 instead. Most rooms have only taken two men a day or a day and a bit to do as well.

I'm in the north if this helps.

£430 for a bedroom (including ceiling).
North-west

ooh - thanks for this. V. handy to have an idea before we start getting quotes.

Am off to buy a steam wallpaper stripper and will have a crack at the shifting the anaglypta in the box room at the weekend.
