Two offers rejected in last week. One went 17k OVER asking price! Our current offer on another place which is 7.5K under asking price has been rejected as they want asking price. (since DH liked house but I didn't as much have decided not to bother increasing offer)

I just don't get it- we are supposed to be in a credit crunch and I thought everyone was pricing everything 20k above what they wanted.

Bah. Apparently jan/feb time is supposed to be best time to buy a house- shame its also time I am due to give birth. Think partly they must see us coming- first time buyers, great deposit, baby on way- they must be desperate.

But am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fucked off with it all.

Really? We had our house on market for over 6 months, barely any viewings and only offer we got was for £100k LESS!!! When found out I was pg, we decided to remove from market as couldn't be arsed with it all.

Come and buy my place

Thandeka · 19/11/2009 14:02

Where is it! (and is it a three bed freehold with upstairs bathroom)

Seriously the market is insane at the moment for anything half decent- I really don't get it- I think housing stock is low at mo but flats are diff.

Nuts, isn't it? We're in SW London, but much the same here. I think we're still in the bounce, and prices won't come down until next year....and even then, in pockets of London property market is a law unto itself: shortage of stock creating higher prices.

We sold at the bottom of the crunch last spring (took us ages), and are buying (after losing 4 - yes 4! others) on a property that went to sealed bids at a little over the asking price...but we'll be there a long time, so doesn't matter so much.

Its so stressful, I feel for you - bad enough not pg! Good luck, may the next one be the one.

also suspect VAT going up at end of dec may be playing a part- people want to save money on solititors/surveys etc?

Barnet! 4 bed semi, master with en suite shower room, large family bathroom and downstairs cloakroom!!!! All rooms really big!! However, am having baby on 29 Dec so really don't think now a good time for me to be selling and moving

House prices are riing and will continue to do so until the election.L.abour know thay can't win so may aswell keep rates low and prices high and bail out the banks until the election. Then everyone can say my house was worth X under GB and now its dropped. We bought a house sept 08 at a drop of 28% off peak.An identical house across the road has just sold at 100k more than we paid and it needs renovation!

We're in the same position as you Thandeka - 2 offers rejected in past week. Just found this afternoon that our offer on a house I fell in love with and which we offered £4k over the asking price on, went for a ridiculous amount more than that. We are cash buyers with no chain and still can't buy the house we want FFS! Also looking in North London. Hopefully in a different area to you!

Thandeka · 19/11/2009 18:21

It's okay Can'tthinkoffunnyname I'll just move in with you. We can live under your beds and be your friendly neighbourhood house imps. (although at 5ft9 and with a large bump I think house lump might be a better name!)

Twinkletoes76- We are looking north east london (yup a spread that wide!) so from haringey to enfield, maybe Barnet maybe walthamstow. Maybe even cheshunt or chingford but maybe not. Hopefully you are an NW lass!

oh good, you're not the competition! We're moving from NW to hackney, although the way things are going at the moment we'll be going nowhere!

fruitstick · 22/11/2009 10:53

We sold our house in stylish West London at exactly the low point of the market. We sold it for £125k less than it's original asking price 9 months before.

If reckon if we had were selling now we would have got an extra £75k

We sold because I was pregnant and we wanted to leave London so had a timelimit. Not that I'm bitter.

I don't actually regret it but still think we could have made more rational decisions.

We have just lost a house that went to sealed bids. It's depressing. But I would hold on.

Incidentally we eventually moved when DS2 was 7 weeks. It wasn't ideal but really wasn't as hellish as we thought. So fear not!

Thandeka · 23/11/2009 19:12

hmmm a few days later and they have come back to us to accept our offer. Darn it now I suspect we offered too much and were gullible to believe there was another offer on table for 2.5k under ours.

Still having a dilemma about it though as not sure it is "the one" but so bloody fed up of looking for "the one" and "this'll do with potential for lots of improvements to make it a bloody nice house"

Property only lasting two weeks in the green end of Surey.

MillyMollyMoo · 23/11/2009 20:35

That's interesting Noddy, am so tempted to sell ours in January/Spring because I honestly believe it's now or wait 10 years which I couldn't bear.
