only exchanged yesterday so it's all a bit of a rush - if anyone's moved recently do you have any good advice / tips about how to deal with moving day and the run up to it? have a couple of boxes here with a few books in, and have arranged for DC's to go to friends for the day... and of course there are all the utilities to organise...
But are there any secrets to JUST GETTING THROUGH IT?#! TIA

bumping this for you as I'm in same situation. Provisional date for move is 28th nov but I'm sure that's likey to change as still waiting for people to get paperwork sorted. Need all tips and advice I can get.

Be logical with packing. Don't try to declutter as you pack, throw anything obvious away but don't stress, just shove it all in a box, you can throw anything away that doesn't find a home as you unpack again.

Pick a room that you don't use much, pack it then go round and pack anything you don't need. Books off bookshelves, summer clothes etc and move them in to the box room.

Label all boxes with contents and the room they need to go in.

As you get to the last couple of days pack a suitcase as though youwere going on holiday for a couple of days. That will be what you will need to remain unpacked. Pack anothger one to have things the first couple of days (change of clothes, soap, book, toys). Pack a box with the kettle, mugs, cereals, a plate, bowl, knife, fork and spoon each and washing up stuff and keep to one side. Make a dish of lasagne, cottage pie or something to bung in the oven the first night. Everything else can now be packed. One room at a time, all in boxes.

You should now have one room with the bulk of the unused stuff in which can go straight in the spare room/loft to be dealt with last. All the rest of your stuff which you use should be in boxes in the room inwhich it lives ready to be placed in the equivalent room of your new house and unpacked.

Voila!

Ds is not yet 3 and has lived in 5 houses, I've done this a lot!

Oh and don't worry too much about utilities. Write the numbers on a piece of paper and put it somewhere safe like your purse. As you move out write down the metre readings. So lonbg as you ring those through within a few days they are fine and will just send you your final statement to your new address. Your documents should have the names of the surrent suppliers to your new home on so jot down those numbers, write down the readings as soon as you get there and again so long as you ring them within a few days it is fine.

I used to work for utility company, write down any readings in something like a diary or address book just in case you ever need to refer back to it because that pesky peice of paper sometimes goes missing

Get your mail re-directed now as it takes them a few weeks to get sorted.

We are hopefully moving next year so I know that I will make ds1 sleep in the master bedroom on a camp bed which he loves so we can stack his room high with boxes
