We are thinking about getting it done as house seems to be getting smaller! Thinking of getting a bedroom with en-suite, but I'm wondering if we should make it our room or for one of the children. Can't imagine them sleeping on a different floor - am I weird?

No, you're not weird - I couldn't imagine being on a different floor to my dcs either.
Not had a loft conversion but friends of ours have been seriously debating it and are hesitating only because you usually only get a 50% return on your investment with a loft conversion, in terms of the value it adds to your home. Not a problem if you never plan to sell but if you might not be there forever, it's something to bear in mind.

I am considering the same, expecting to pay £30k for a bedroom and bathroom.

We are planning to stay in our house for a long time, and when our dc are teenagers we think we will appreciate the distance.

I mean they won't want to hear us having fun.

lol
Certainly if you plan to have a loft conversion, you may as well use it yourself and not have to put up with small feet thundering above you early each morning!

Hi we had a loft conversion last year. In South East and for bedroom and bathroom it cost closer to £45k but they are decent sized rooms and we are pleased that we had it done.

I was also concerned about having the DC's on different floor although they were 9 (twins) by the time the work was done so not tiny little ones.

I always leave the door in loft open and the couple of times when they have shouted out in night I have heard them clearly.

Thanks for the replies. We have a quote for £38K which doesn't seem too bad. We love our house and the location is great. I'm just having trouble visualizing it and how we'd use it to our best advantage. The stairs would take some space away from our smallest bedroom and that would turn into a small study which would be great as we are drowning in paper clutter!

We were quoted 38K actually came to 47K without decoration. IME you need a big contigency.

we have a loft conversion. The DCs manage to climb up the stairs every morning and wake us up for breakfast.
