Hi,

I am 6 months pregnant and we live in a town house which at present has warm air heating. We have been meaning to change this for some time but didn't get round to it. We just had the boiler serviced and it was deamed unsafe. Therefore we are looking at putting in central heating and a new boiler.

We are getting some quotes soon but I just wondered if it is feasible to get a new central heating system up and running before christmas (and the baby arrives)

Anyone know a rough time frame for this kind of work?

I reckon you should go for the new warm air system. It sounds really good. I wouldn't miss radiators, it would be lovely not to have to try to clean behind the bloomin' things. Your quote sounds good to me!

Sorry Dexter to be pedantic, but do you mean you are just replacing the boiler or something more than that i.e radiators instead of vents

dexter73 · 23/10/2009 09:46

We don't have any radiators, we have grilles in the rooms that the hot air comes out of. What we are replacing is not a boiler but the unit that produces the hot air like this.
We are not having the water heater fitted at the moment but can have it added later. Also you can have radiators from the warm air unit if you have the water heater to produce the hot water. The water heater would cost an additional £800.

yep, that looks like our system so it's been really useful to read your posts. Thanks a lot and makes me more optimistic that we won't be facing a huge bill and upheaval.

Yes I was very relieved that it was £2284 not £5000. Would have taken a while before we could have had it done in that case - would have been a cold winter in our house!
Also glad that it is easy to fit and will only take a day.

Hi guys,

Thought I'd update the thread as we are all set to go.

We got quotes for new central heating system which ranged from 38500 to 5400.

We are going with a quote of about 4500 however this includes fixing a leak in our bathroom. This is for 9/10 radiators plus boiler and making good afterwards.

Our boiler has broken down 4 times in the last 2 yrs so it def needs replacing.

I would have been happy to upgrade our warm air heating system like dexter73 however we have an extension which is unheated at present and apparently you cannnot extend the present warm air heating sytem to incorporate it so we have gone with radiator/central heating system for that reason. I also quite like using radiators to dry clothes instead of my tumble dryer.
