Are you supposed to tip the removal men?

Title says it all really.

Anyway, I am moving on Friday (crapping myself TBH) and we have decided to treat ourselves to a proper removal firm. Previously, we have always done it ourselves but that was before 2 DCs.

Any advice about how to keep the removal men happy would be much appreciated.

And you resurrected a thread over 7 years old for this?

MooMooKerchu · 23/02/2017 21:25

So you had £30 each spare to tip them - well done you. Other people don't have the spare money and give what they can. A tip is just that - over and above what they're paid and it's all a bonus

We gave them a couple of bottles of wine (obv for later!) - they were very happy!

We had a split day move and the team who packed us were, with the exception of the driver, different to the team who delivered our furniture. We gave each team member £20 - so the driver won out as he got £40 but he did work over the 2 days and they were brilliant and really lovely about receiving the tip.

£20 each when we moved last.

I have always done on the day - but after the last lot I would check items and then send their tip the next day, the amount of damage was awful and not eveident immediately.

Zombie thread!

And I don't tip - unless in the US really.
Tea and Coffee, and biscuits all the time while working.

Honeyandfizz · 03/03/2017 17:22

I suspect sooz is a removal man!

sooz1950 · 03/03/2017 18:32

Nope I am someone who was genuinely looking to see what people tip. And that's all!

sooz1950 · 03/03/2017 18:33

Yes I did, What's your problem with a thread being resurrected? I couldn't find anything else more recent on this subject, duh!

PossumInAPearTree · 03/03/2017 18:36

Well if they work five days a week and get £10 tip each day that's over £200 in tips a month. Which is good. I work at a physically hard, mentally exhausting job doing 13 hour shifts and don't get tipped.

When I last moved 15 years ago we tipped the two guys £20 each. Though it made me giggle slightly as one of them owned the firm and lived in a much bigger house than ours! We kept them supplied with ice cold drinks from the shop as it was a boiling day.
