I would go for an aga gas cooker which looks like a nice old fashioned aga but with gas burners on top and then have under floor heating!

MadameCastafiore · 17/07/2009 21:50

here - beauty of an aga but underfloor heating easy to control and cheaper and just super yummy.

Merrylegs · 17/07/2009 21:52

Aga.

Oh, hang on. Is it your main living room?

Hmm, aga in a living room? Dunno.

But wouldn't it be a faff to keep the wood burner going?

Merrylegs · 17/07/2009 21:55

I have one of these just to throw a spanner in the works. Tis lovely.

HerHonesty · 17/07/2009 21:57

we have a seperate living room (which will become our "salon" ha ha) when we knock through our dining room, kitchen, breakfast room to become a kitchen, snug type place and dining room) room will be l shaped, roughly 7 metres by 8 metres.

Depends on your own reasons
I like that wood is cheaper and better for our carbon footprint

HerHonesty · 17/07/2009 22:00

oohhh....liking the everhot...

Bloody hell Merry that is very nice - think DH would have a fit though if I told him I don't want an aga cooker now but want one of those so he better save a bit more!

hobbgoblin · 17/07/2009 22:03

Aga for all round warmth and usefulness, woodburning for cosy feature if using room of an evening to sit in. You wouldn't want to sit looking at an aga no matter how toasty you were. Equally, you wouldn't want to get the fire going to cook your toast or bake a cake, plus cake baking isn't going to be too successful over a naked flame now is it?

On balance, Aga plus a Dab Radio so you can be audibly entertained in lieu of visual stimulation.

HerHonesty · 17/07/2009 22:17

like your answer hobgob... oohh listening to the archers by your aga. how bloody middle aged and rural is that.

meltedmarsbars · 17/07/2009 22:28

Can't you have both? My mum does.

HerHonesty · 17/07/2009 22:37

well i suppose if i was trying to rival the hot house at kew!

To me they are totally diferent things.

An Aga is something that you cook on which also gives out heat. A woodburner heats a room but doesn't cook your dinner.

Owls · 18/07/2009 20:27

Given the scenario you've described an Aga definitely.

paisleyleaf · 18/07/2009 21:08

We cook on our woodburning stove when we're being frugal

HerHonesty · 18/07/2009 21:36

yes, i appreciate they are different things, but given i cant have both, what would you choose.

OP posts:
fatjac · 20/07/2009 10:13

Well in that case an Aga.

kitsmummy · 20/07/2009 11:32

Aren't Agas horrendously expensive to run? And woodburners quite cheap to run? But if cost isn't an issue i'd go for an Aga

GrapefruitMoon · 20/07/2009 11:41

I'd go for a woodburning stove personally - but my cooking style probably doesn't suit an Aga!

Or would you have a "normal" cooker as well?

LadyThompson · 20/07/2009 16:30

Well...my FIL has an Aga and his gas bills make me swoon - £125 per month all year round.

I would never seek to dissuade anyone from something they have set their heart on! But woodburners are cheapish to run.

I would go for a woodburner.
