Waiting for completion date and getting increasingly stressed.

I've charted the imcompetence of our solicitor in another thread.
Saga continues. We were assured that completing on the 27th July would be fine. We have failed repeatedly to get our sol. to understand that our tenancy ends on 1st August and we need to know what's going on. Last Thursday we phoned our sol. to discover she was on holiday until Tuesday. would have been nice to have been told that. So DP mailed her first thing Tuesday morning (she responded immediately, when usually it's a couple of days and a phone call to get a response) and stated she is no longer handling our case, it has been passed to a colleague. The deposit was transferred monday, DP mailed to check it had been received and asked for them to contact him to arrange completion date. He got an email that said 'i will speak to those concerned'
DP didn't get this mail until last night when he got in from work as he cannot access his e-mail at work. They have been asked to CC me on all mails so i can contact DP if we need to phone them. They have failed to do so on almost every occasion.

We're on holiday next week (was planned before house buying commenced) and so we need to know by the end of this week what day we can move as we are in rented and need the house empty for cleaning before our final inspection by the letting agent (who in themselves annoyed me yesterday by trying to persuade me to leave the keys for an unattended inspection when DP told them categorically we would not do that.)

We shouldn't have to keep moving things along by speaking to supervisors and on two occasions the complaints dept. Or phoning the Estate agent to find that sellers sol. have already done things which our sol. claims they are waiting for.

I'm just offloading here because i am so frustrated by our solicitors inability to understand the urgency we now feel at setting a date.

£600 is quite cheap tbh. Hope you get a date soon.

queenrollo · 20/07/2009 13:24

liz everywhere else was considerably cheaper than that, which is why we're not going for it.

DP on phone to solicitor now as we got an e-mail saying we are still waiting for the chain to progress. We're starting to worry now that whatever is holding up the chain is going to mean this drags on for weeks, which means i will technically homeless with a 4 year old in tow......

Hope you hear something soon QR?

Oh hun I feel for you. I know you think £600 is a bit steep but it would probably be worth it stress-wise if you let the professionals do the moving, especailly since you have aggrivated old injuries. Do you want to name & shame the solicitors on here? Good luck!

been away and had a lovely, much needed, relaxing holiday in the Lake District.

Case handler kept us up to speed while we were away and we now know what the problem is, and it is easily resolved and so we just have to wait for the people further along the chain to deal with it.
Several friends have offered help and so shifting our stuff into storage isn't too much of a problem (we barely have any furniture as we've been making do while in rented)

We've also changed where we will be staying in the meantime. A different friend has two spare rooms, so my son can have his own bedroom with all his things in it, and we can have a proper bedroom set-up rather than fitting round other people. It's also close to my parents/ds's dad/my friends......so i will have plenty of support while waiting for this to be sorted out.

The biggest frustration has been the lack of communication from our solicitor and after the last week it seems to us that the problem was with our original case handler. The new lad has been fantastic and is trying very hard to get us exchanged and completed as soon as possible.

as for the £600 to move? if we weren't having to pay for storage too then we would probably stretch to that but funds simply won't allow for the extra cost.

I'm much calmer now......getting away from it all really did help.

yesterday we were told that our seller wanted to complete today but the funds can't be drawn down from the bank that quickly, so we agreed on Thursday. Then we get a call to say they can't move out until Friday not ideal for us as we are supposed to be out of here 9.30 fri am for final inspection (our contract however does not say that and our tenancy doesn't run out until midnight Sat)
Still waiting to find out exactly what is going on.

we are completing on Friday. We are moving some stuff into a large garage at the property on Friday am. I am sick of being at the mercy of other people........but the end is in sight now. Just need to find someone to help DP shift the really heavy stuff like the washing machine! We're going to have to use rooms in a couple of friends houses over the next two days for storing boxes so that i can clean here.
