How do I find out the difference in sunset/rise position over a year for a property??

I know it sounds like a daft question but I'm keen to know how much of a possible purchase's back garden would be in shadow! It's an east facing garden, poss SLIGHTLY to the south.

Well if it's facing east it will get the sun in the morning. What you need to take into account are the buildings, trees around the garden. During the summer the sun raises high in the sky so will more than likely higher surrounding buildings, It winter it's very low...
You can probably find out the times and degrees of sunset and sunrise but it probably won't mean that much.
Draw a plan of the garden with major obstructions and then you'll be able to see what casts a shadow, when. HTH's
On the other hand you could just ask the vendor??

I site I found said I THINK that the difference in sunset position from high summer to deep winter is about 75 degrees which seems rather a lot to me! Could that be correct?

• North-facing gardens get the least light and can be damp
• South-facing gardens get the most light
• East-facing gardens get morning light
• West-facing gardens get afternoon and evening light

You can work out the direction the garden faces by finding the house on Google Maps. If it's on Rightmove then it's even better as the house should have an arrow pointing to it!
