Please help me find pink paint.

My DD is two and all she wants is a pink bedroom! I agreed and have had her room painted in Dulux's 'sorbet' - looked lovely in a test patch but is seriously overpowering and PINK in her room.

I have got the decorators coming back tomorrow and am running out of ideas and can't buy any more testers tonight.

Can anyone recommend a nice soft pink? It needs to be pink enough to keep DD happy but soft enough for me! Am considering 'whimsical' and 'complexion' based on the colours in the book. (Nothing too chalky pink - she currently has a Farrow and Ball pink on her walls and is adamant that it isn't actually pink )

many thanks.

Do one wall in the brighter pink and then rest in a paler or off-white

actually my DD's room is pink on one wall and light green on all the others, it looks good

How about Coraline by Fired Earth - available from Homebase. It's a creamier pink and could easily be dressed down with some chintzy bedding or powder blues and sagey greens.

We have Dulux Pretty Pink in dd's room and it isn't totally overpowering - but then, maybe I've just got used to it

SniffyHock · 04/05/2009 20:32

Thanks all - Coraline is lovely but looks similar to the Farrow and Ball colour that she has already.
Pretty pink is a similar shade to sorbet in my book - maybe it's just her room but it's quite strong!!
Morningpaper - I really like the idea of leaving one wall in the bright pink and painting the rest a lighter one. can you remember which colour you used? DD's bedlinen is pink and green.

I have used Dulux colours and I could rummage them out from my Files Of Useless Information

Let me find a pic of their room and upload it... wait there

morningpaper · 04/05/2009 20:43

I have put pic on my profile that has both walls in it, to give you an idea of how the colours go together... any help?

My DD's room is painted in F&B Calamine and Pointing - 2 walls each. Pointing is a lovely white that complements the pink well.

MarmadukeScarlet · 04/05/2009 20:46

I got some mixed by the machine.

It was called L'enfant, it is pale sugar mouse pink. DD's room is large and round (over 3m diameter) so did not have the option of an accent wall.

Pink enough for a discerning 6 yr old, pale enough for any F&B lover.

I always gag at the Calamine NAME

They should do one called Calpol

I've just done my girls' new room in crown solo "beauty queen" and am really pleased with it, Definitely pink but not OTT - although it is 3 small walls in a (odd-shaped) largish mostly white room; it might be a bit much all over. It's pretty similar to what you've got though. That's not helpful at all is it.

MarmadukeScarlet · 04/05/2009 20:49

Just seen your dd is 2.

My DD really wanted Flamingo Fun

gemmieporklegs · 04/05/2009 20:52

we have Fairy Dust (think its a crown paint) and it's really nice on. dd has a picture rail in her room, so we painted the top part off white and the main colour pink and its not too overpowering.

gemmieporklegs · 04/05/2009 20:53

fairy dust

DaisyOinkSwiner · 04/05/2009 21:05

We had the same problem and in the end we bought Pretty Pink and some white and made our own - it worked really well, you just have to be certain to make enough to do the whole room as a second batch would inevitably be different.

nigglewiggle · 04/05/2009 21:10

Used Peony from Laura Ashley - admittedly only on one wall and candy-stripe paper on other walls. But, I think it would be 'mild' enough to use on each wall.

SniffyHock · 04/05/2009 21:37

Thanks so much everyone. Calamine is the colour of her current bedroom and although I love it, she's not impressed.
Have tested Peony and Fairy dust but they are both similar to Sorbet (am really annoyed as Laura Ashley used to do a gorgeous pink which I had in my old house but have stopped it.) I think it's because DD's room is really quite big, south facing, with two windows but seemingly innocuous colours seem to take over in there.

I think I have decided to keep Sorbet on one wall (the one you can't see from the hallway ) and pain the others in 'whimsical' which is almost white with just a hint of pink.
