Any ideas for simple, traditional bunk beds that aren't too pricey?

When my youngest DS turns 2, we are thinking of bunk beds for our two boys.

We don't have loads of money to spend, don't want anything too crazy, but do want it to be solid, preferably wood, just straightforward.

Or- and perhaps for this we need to spend more money- can anyone suggest beds that can be converted from bunk beds into two singles later on?

All help or suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks.

We bought these a few months ago and they seem absolutely fine so far. We're currently using them as single beds. The free mattresses are a bit iffy IMO, but fine for kids (as they're lighter) - I think we'll buy some better mattresses at a later date.

We have had the pine Amy bunk beds from Argos for a few weeks now, they are fine for young children but I think not so great for teenagers.

They were £298 with mattresses and aren't too high and long IYSWIM

There are loads on eBay. We got ours (pine) from a seller for £50!

Thanks, they both look good.

How likely are 4yr olds to throw themselves off the top in the middle of the night?? (I notice most websites suggest not to let under 6's on the top bunk)

I have a 4yo (5 in July) in the top bunk and a 3yp on the bottom. She has never fallen out, manages fine to get up for the toilet in the night (we leave a nightlight on). I chose the Amy ones as they were the smallest ones I could find. We also have no jumping on the top bunk rule.

You could try getting some made at a shop that sells pine furniture. I got mine made to fit an ikea childs mattress so they are not too big.

Thanks once again.

Sweetkitty- you raise an interesting point- going to the toilet in the night!
My almost 4yr old (birthday in two weeks), who will be on the top bunk, is nowhere near going through the nightdry. He does not wake up if wet, has a sopping nappy in the morning, and shows no interest at all when we talk about the issue!

(He falls asleep with no nappy but we tend to put a nappy on him once asleep as otherwise he will quite literally wet the bed several times a night........)

I'm not going to worry about it too much as I think it's still relatively normal at his age, but I had started to wonder if I'll have to shinny up the ladder every night and put a nappy on him (!)

Another vote for the Amy Bunk beds. My DD1 went in the top bunk from 4years old and has never fallen out. The bonus with this bed is that you can also get a trundle bed to pull out underneath - to catch your DC2 if they fall out, or for sleepovers when they get older.

As PPs have said, it is a smaller buink bed and lower, so safer for the little ones.

We have this one

It was cheaper when we got it (£279 I think) - worth looking out for special offers they do from time to time. It is very sturdy, comes apart into to singles and has very good mattresses. The added bonus for me was that they assembled it when they delivered it...

we got the ikea ones for about £80.
very solid but can't be made into two beds
