Seat covering for messy eaters

We have dining chairs that have upholstered seats. The seat itself lifts out of the chair frame and is upholstered with fabric that has a pile which makes it very difficult to clean out ingrained wheatabix. The uphostery has reached a stage of disgustingness that even with my low standards I can nolonger stomach. I have thought about re-upholstering them with oilcloth so that they will wipe clean but I think this might be a bit sticky to sit on. It is difficult to find oilcloth that will drape well enough and has a decent pattern, any ideas?

My friend had this problem and she bought shower curtains and re-upholstered her seats. She bought fabricy ones but they are still easily wiped clean and cheap enough to replace when they do get a bit too filthy. Now her children are a bit older she has re-upholstered with something a bit more longer lasting as they don't need such serious cleaning.

I like the idea of shower curtains, good lateral thinking Ineedacleaner! (like your name btw, would suit me too). I'm off to look at Habitat's website. This dilemma has turned into a marvellous shopping opportunity!

Clingfilm! I think I would be replacing it every day

Why not buy some cheap wooden chairs from ebay or the charity shop and put your other ones in the loft for now (you could then paint them with eggshell paint in a lovely colour)? Then swap them over when your children are a bit older, sending the wooden ones back to the charity shop?

Swedes - oh for more storage. We live in a top floor tenement flat which is already bursting at the seams with baby equipment that may or may not be used again.

I'm seriously tempted by this and this
I'll be tapping my fingers with impatience for them to come back into stock.

Or what about some linen slip covers (washable)? Oka do some nice ones.

I think wipe clean is the route to go down for us, if DS2 is anything like DS1 we still have years of messiness ahead of us.
