Thin veneer of cooking grease on units- how to clean?

We have wooden 'country' style kitchen units. We are cleaning the whole place up and I have found my best friend is a Stanley knife blade, scraped carefully across all surfaces!

However, there's still a slight sticky residue left on the surfaces of the units around the cooker and on the tiles behind though at least I can scrub and Cif them!

What product should I use to get rid of it?

Detergent/sugar soap/white spirit/vinegar/Cif??

I was going to suggest sugar soap too.

Cillit Bang and an e-cloth/old toothbrush.

I use Flash Orange on stuff like that - it cuts through most grease.
