We accepted an offer a couple of weeks ago and within an hour of doing so our buyers started calling with questions etc. They are a lovely couple but I was wondering if it is normal practice for EA's to give out phone numbers in this way? we weren't asked first so it was a bit of a surprise to receive the first call!

they have been asking lots of questions that they will get answers to via solicitors as its all stuff I've had to fill in etc - I think we just feel a bit uncomfortable if that makes sense?!

I would also be livid (with the agent rather than the vendors, obv)and would complain very strongly to the EA. I would instruct them to tell the buyers that you are not in a position to accept any further phone calls and that they may pass their questions through the EA - or as you said, much of what they are asking will probably be answered during the contract stage anyway.

They should have asked but, I would say, it is best to keep a dialogue going with buyers so you all know where you stand and you aren't dependent on third parties pasing on messages. They may be irritating but they are spending (probably) a six-figure sum on your home so I think it's best to humour them. At least they sound keen.

Get caller ID if it all gets a bit much.

I am all for keeping in contact with your vendors/sellers yourself. (although I do agree the EA should not have given out your details with your permission). Our last house sale would never have happened unless we had been in constant contact with each other. The EA were worse than useless.

THanks for replies I think oh and I have agreed that its a good sign they are keen - and they are so nice its hard to get annoyed anyway! I agree, they are putting a lot of money into the house and without them we can't move to our dream home (we've waited over 2 years for these buyers to come along after lots of unproceedable offers etc)

I think it was just the intial shock of picking the phone up to them that first day and then the quizzings about the work that's been done (before we even lived here) and questions about certificates of work that I'd just answered ont eh conveyencing form - we felt a little out of our depth lol.both of us are NHS peeps so confidentiality is a huge issue and it was weird to have had ours breeched (if you can call it that?!)
