Slate floors and travertine sink / shower

I am in the middle of a mill conversion and have got to the stage where I need to order some of the fittings.

We have planned to have slate flooring downstairs, including the downstairs shower room. As this will be the only downstairs toilet, I imagine it will get a lot of use, so I'm wondering at the wisdom of fitting a travertine sink and shower.
Firstly - will the blue / black slate even go with the brownish travertine? Secondly - does anyone who has one of these sinks like them?

If I do have slate floor, stone sink and shower tray - what tiles do I have??

Or is it best to stick with a white bathroom suite that will match anything?

I'm a bit scared of getting the look wrong. It's been bad enough sorting out the layout - don't think I can stand anymore arguments with DP about it!!

Any help appriciated.

I have travertine floor and wall tiles and white fittings and it looks lovely

God, I'm . Definitely go with the slate and the stone and post pictures when it is finished.

Don't be llll, it's a NIGHTMARE!! If we were on Prop ladder or GD we'd be the couple shouting at each other while presenter goes on about having no budget or shedule.... hhmmmmm. (That's a whole other thread!)

Should I work on the basis that natural materials usually go together and hope for the best?? I don't have time to get to a decent showroom this weekend to see different material next to each other, so trying to find pictures online (obviously NOT the best way to be doing it!)

Should have explained in original post that the plumber is putting the drains in next week, so I have to decide on the shower tray this weekend; a lot sooner that I thought, so it's caught me on the hop slightly.
But I can't decide on shower tray, without planning sink, tiles, floor blah, blah, blah and starting to panic!!

Don't panic - go with your instincts (and budget). I think the slate and stone sound gorgeous but it will look lovely with just the slate as well (my favourite stone). Can you buy ready-made travertine shower trays? If not, the lead-in time may end up being the deciding factor...

Still .

Also i have found that natural materials seem to settle together in a way which is much more difficult to achieve when for example mixing colours or patterns.Sounds lovely

Just a quick warning in case you live in a hard water area, tavertine can be damaged by cleaners for removing limescale.

As for the slate if it-s black it-ll be fine, if bluish maybe less so. White would be great with slate if you are worried. Can you slate tile the walls too?

i personally (and thats just personal) think the slate floor and travertine sink and stone tiles will look a bit... stoney. i have seen this all put together and it looks a bit OTT so if i were you i would go for stone floor of choice, nice tiles and a white suite.

if you are going for stone fittings then try and minimise the use of tiles eg have painted walls with tiles around shower/bath and upstand of sink.

Think I'm sorted (for now). I've gone for a resin shower tray (off white / beige colour) which means I don't have to stress about different stone colours.

WP I agree that stone everything might be a bit much - but I'm a geologist and can't help getting carried away!

Thanks for all the advise - I'll be back asking for more help soon.
