Thinking of moving to Exeter

Please talk to me about good areas to live in and good schools. Will need primary and secondary and to be in reasonable distance from the University. We want to live in Exeter itself rather than in a village. We would probably have about £300k to spend on a house.

St Leonards appears to be the choice de rigueur for parents concerned about catchment areas , but it is the most expensive area in the city. It is further away from the University, but it's not more that a 15 minutes ride on the D bus.

I used to live in exeter before I had children and I think about moving back still, but the schools are a bit of an issue for me too. DC are only just tarting primary, so I'll see in a couple of year's time whether the new school buildings and new heads have made a difference.
I lived on the edge of St Leonards and it's the best part of Exeter for me- a row of lovely little local shops, beautiful surroundings, 10 minutes walk to the centre. I miss it still.

Elinor dash woods have Ben reading this thread as thinking of moving to Exeter. How did you go on? I have been looking at st James Ofsted report from 2009 and they were given good2, also st Luke's in 2010 it a two, and isca college of media arts in 09. What's thevposition like now? I too have been put off schooling in Devon in general due to reading threads, but annot believe that somewhere so 'safe' as people describe it and delightful has such bad schools. I am more interested in a school with low bullying than exceptional grade results, so maybe we will be ok.
