Ok, sorry about the million threads on this board lately, I'm a novice and need your help to avoid making expensive mistakes!

This is going to be tricky to explain so bear with me. We are doing the bathroom in the house we are buying (complete on Fri!) and we have decided to box the bath in as in this picture.

Now, the bathroom will differ slightly from that picture as the bath will be flush to the wall and it will have a shower over the bath and the end of the bath with the shower on will also also be flush to the wall.

We are getting the tiles that are in that picture to go over where the bath panel would go (IYSWIM) and also on the end opposite the shower that will not be flush with the wall.

Now then, for the wall the bath is on do we use that same tile and tile all the way to the ceiling (we are using those exact tiles that are in the picture, tile A) OR do we use a different tile (tile b) to tile half way up the wall, then have a left to right running strip of tile* A and then tile up to the ceiling with tile b OR do we tile the entire wall the bath is on with tile* b but in the centre of the wall tile vertically a strip of tile A?

The rest of the bathroom is going to be painted and the floor is going to be tiled.

If you made it this far well done, if you made it this far and understand what the hell I am going on about you deserve a bloody medal!

I would avoid tiling half way up wall with one tile than using another on top - looks naff in my opinion. I think unless the tiles offer a very clever contrast, making panels using different ones is a bit hit and miss (although some tiles come in complementing sets to allow this sort of thing).

Just use all the same type - I think it is OK to look a bit samey in a bathroom, they're usually quite small and don't need tonnes of accent colours and so on. Add some bright towels if you find it a bit bland.

thanks lalalonglegs, great advice. The different tilling will only be one strip IYSWIM? So tile a, then b, then a. But the strip can either go left to right, or front bottom of wall to top.

I'm not sure if the tiles in the picture might be a bit crazy to tile all up a wall as they are quite small rectangles.

tis confusing for me as I can't visualise anything

I think in that case, it is worth getting tiles you really like rather than ones you're not sure you can stomach too many of...
