....I have sourced the flooring, but cant find a fitter.

If anyone knows a fitter in the midlands who could do this I will kiss you. (Virtually of course!)

People who have quoted me for the coir and fitting are taking the p**s.

Surely in this economic climate there must be someone who can do it???????

Have you looked for shops nearby that stock similar flooring, they might be able to recommend an independent fitter?

I could recommend one in Glasgow, but wouldn't be much help to you!

tbh i have never known anyone who fitted pre sourced carpets, normally you choose carpet from the fitter.

ickletickle · 17/04/2009 07:54

to add (sorry) thats how they make their money, ie fitting is free but carpet is expensive.

I assume that fitting coir is like fitting sisal - in which case it's glued to the floor, not fitted like a normal carpet and therefore is a lot more expensive than carpet fitting, maybe that's why your quotes are so expensive?

My neighbours have that carpet and regret the day they laid eyes on it - tiny bit spilt on it and it stains - anything baby sick, juice, dribble and it is ruined!

Hmmm.... I know a couple of carpet fitters who will just fit, but won't touch coir. There are a few mumsnetters who swear it's fantastic, and I have lived with it before in a house we rented and found it fine- if a bit prickly underfoot. I think I might have to glue it down myself....

I have seagrass and it is fantastic. We had it stain protected with intec and it has had red wine, cat sick, mouse guts and all sorts on it and it has all lifted straight off.

It is a lot more difficult to fit than normal carpet as it is glued down so is more expensive.

I.ve found the flooring and underlay for £500 inc delivery. The quotes I've have to supply and fit have been £1,500 - £1,800. Surely they can't charge £1000 to lay it!

If it's glued down - will it ever come up again?

It is a 2 day job to lay it, but £1000 seems a bit steep!!

There is a company called Ollerton Hall Carpets (google them)who sell coir etc, and have fitters who they recommend. It might be worth contacting them to see if they can help.

I have coir and I love it. As long as you mop up spills quickly there are no marks. Best flooring I've ever had.
