If a house gave you everything you needed in the town you wanted but was "the wrong end" of town, how much would that bother you ?

Never in a million years could we afford the size house we need now in the right spot so could you compromise on the location in the right postcode for space ?
Or would we regret that in the long term ?

Ah well that's worth knowing thank you, I only ever went up there once to a photographers I think.
I have just been spoilt, we used to live on Broad Street and the kids went to the prep so it was all on my door step, but that was a main too with the parking.
I'd love to get back and if the MIL in the garage is the price I have to pay then so be it

*main pain I meant.

I fully intend to haggle on the price too lol just for the fun of it as I'm going to have to give ours away after all these months of living on a building site, it's beautiful sob sob.

It's not that bad, but I see what you mean by location... still it's close to the station! I think it's quite nice for a new build. We have not looked in Stratford but been looking around other parts in Warks (we are in Rugby now)and there haven't been that many sales around here. So it's worth negotiating. If you want to hear about Rugby or Leamington Spa, let me know.

Sorrento · 12/04/2009 18:52

Rugby and Leamington may go on my list depending on if the prep has places for the girls, moving back is going to mean going private at this stage I think, which is a shame but what can you do.
Hubby found some land in Kettering which looks promising but I'm not sure I have that in me.

Leamington has lovely shopping. Rugby is grammar school land. Avoid Kettering.

Sorrento · 12/04/2009 19:44

Oh no why avoid kettering ? I knew it was too good to be true It would be the perfect commute

Kettering is the land time forgot. Really, there is no decent shopping, more a succession of pound shops; too many poor schools (unless you join the church choir to get into the CofE school) & even the independents aren't much cop); and because Northamptonshire doesn't have a city or a university there is a paucity of culture. There are also 1000s of houses about to be developed as part of the govt's housing shortage solution once the economy picks up. Imo Warwickshire has a lot more to offer.

hey dont pick on kettering heated, it really isnt that bad. Although you are correct the shopping is dire. The girls school is pretty good. Youve also got wellingborough private school down the road, Im not sure what St peters private is like, I know its a very small school. What about market harborough sorrento, thats a lovely market town very close to the A14/M1 m6 link road.

Sorrento · 13/04/2009 23:45

Market Harbour looks nice
I think my heart is set on either Stratford or staying where we are, I don't want to compromise anymore than I have to but of course if there are no places in the the local schools it's back to the drawing board again.

Ah, ah, we looked at kettering, at the moment there is a house that looks like a castle for 400k, but the town was so depressing we realised the prices of property couldn't make up for it. Changes are afoot in Rugby as nearby places in Northants won't be able to get into grammar schools (there is one for boys and one for girls), so there will be more places for Rugby residents. Excluded areas are fighting but all the relevant authorities are set to change the rules. One place I quite liked is Grantham, if you are after a nice small town in Lincs.

Sorrento · 17/04/2009 11:35

I know somebody who lives in and loves Grantham, but it's only of those places, like where we are now, people seem to be born and die in the town without ever leaving and I don't like that.
I think It's Stratford or stay put.
