Urgent question about whether or not to remove plaster from the walls and how much it costs roughly to replace!!!!

DH has been removing ALL plaster from all walls in the house we're doing up on the advice of someone (not a builder). He's about half way through and now we are questioning whether or not this advice is correct.

The house has no plumbing or electricity and needs completely redoing, so

  1. What condition of walls would warrant removing it back to the brick?
  1. How much does it cost roughly to replaster.

Any thoughts and advice would be very welcome thank you

depends on the size of teh room. we have had quotes for skimming walls in larger than average rooms, for £400 + per room. if you need to replumb and rewire, you are going to have to patch up the plaster anyway

We renovated our house in the uk recently and it cost over £4000 to replaster the walls...and that was not every room can you not just reskim them? so much cheaper! We had to do it as when you touched the wall you could see the plaster moving which means it was loose. If you have to force it off then really its ok and should be left, only knock back the stuff that comes off really easy

If you need to rewire it all needs chasing out anyway. However it can be patched and the whole wall re skimmed as Lulu said.

When you say no plumbing - no pipes or is it just the heating/ boiler that needs doing. Even if you have no pipework you will "only" need to put waste pipes to the kitchen bathroom(s) and utility through to the outside soil stack / grey water drain. So you it is not all the plaster that needs to come off.

agree that if you have to force the plaster off, it is best to leave it !
