A quick poll. Which is better new (warm) estate house or old (draughty) and characterful?

I was always an 'old house' fan, but I am having my head turned by all these new estate developments. They are so nice and shiny/new and warm. I have gaps in my floor and draugts.

Would you sacrifice your love of old and antique for warmth and modernity?

Sidge its a kind of pleasure pain thing atm as 'brought to life' was a bit optimistic!

it is bare plaster walls and a nice floor with pipes sticking through as kitchen not made yet and can't afford the bloody aga the cooker is a long way off

Anna - you just haven't grasped that when you buy the 19th century vicarage you then devote your enitre existance to making it JUST LIKE a modern house but with coving

Very draining and all consuming not to mention damned costly fulfilling

I couldnt live in a box no matter how new it is...im afraid its character every time, plus you can make it less draughty with a little time & money.

NotAnOtter - oh I know all about old houses! Lots of them around in my extended family - my sister bought a farmhouse in France and redid it recently, my parents and aunt live in old houses in the countryside. My DP hankers after a thatched cottage... Grrrrrrr. Pas pour moi. I want a lovely modern functional architect designed house with an awful lot of windows and bathrooms!
