Husband has moved out so now have to deal with all the stuff in the house. I've been trying to find a reliable plumber to service the boiler no luck. Anyone know of a good one in NW5?

Hi. You could try ringing your local council or social landlord to see which contractor they use.

Yellow pages have Corgi page or you might be able to search corgi website, at least you know they are 'proper' tradesmen. We got one through corgi when in london and chose one who lived round the corner so he was happy to pop in!

We used British Gas last time ours needed working on -- they give you a fixed price for the job and you know they're Corgi registered. More info here

We recently got a plumber through a website called 'rated people' or something like that. you put in details of what job you need doing and these people contact you via email. You can leave and read feedback on these tradespeople as well We got a brilliant plumber who did a great job.

I would go for British Gas. I had the same problem as you and just wanted the boiler servicing before DS arrived and called loads of local plumbers but just couldn't tell Tom from Dick TBH. In the end, called British Gas and they sent someone out for £90 fixed price (though you do have to pay in advance but loads of the local plumbers ask for this as well! At least I was sure BG wasn't going to run off with my money). They will also give you a service guarantee.

I know a really really good Corgi reg plumber called Richard. He's fantastic. I'd send him to you, but I don't know where you are (and I'd have to ask his wife and kids!)

also used british gas. tho when we later had a problem with our boiler and had plumbers out to fix it they said servicing was a bit of a joke really, it doesnt identify or prevent 90 pc of problems just keeps it from getting silted up. how long ago was it last serviced? i know they say should be done every year but am not totally convinced after hearing that...

I agree with woodstock3. We got a service in just before DS was born and to be fair to the BG service guy, he was very honest. He basically told us that for the boiler to release carbon monoxide (our biggest concern), it had to develop two faults in conjunction and that was really rare. Because our boiler was about 6 years old, he said we shouldn't really have any problems with it. Also told us that BG HomeCare was a con as basically, given the type of fancy radiators we had and also the age of the house (about 6 years old), the HomeCare package would only really replace any broken radiators with cheap flat panel ones and that the biggest cost would be if something wrong with our pipes / drainage system, which he didn't think would be a problem in a house that age. So for us, it was £90 well spent to get that advice! The service itself took literally minutes...
