Redoing a bathroom- how much will it cost?

Good condition 10-12 yr old estate-sited brick house. Currently on market for 358k

2 perfectly functional but dated bathrooms (one ensuite but both v. similar)

Assuming we aren't reconfiguring the layout ie no serious pipework or drains needing moving.

We want to:
Retile, plain white probably
Decarpet in favour of waterproof laminate or tiles
New suite- bath, basin, WC, plain white (B&Q ish!)
Wall mount a shower with a 'glass' screen (so poss relocate taps from end of bath to midpoint of bath?)
New taps all round
New vanity with one basin a cupboards beneath, again B&Q style

The main bathroom is 2.26m x1.7m, the ensuite is 1.9m x 1.75 so not vast!

Any ideas whether we're talking 500 quid or 3000. I have NO idea!

I had our main (but tiny) bathroom redone completely, the downstairs cloakroom turned into a shower room, new cold tank and a new hot tank, new tiles and suites all round, and a fair amount of rewiring done for about £5k last December. Took just over 3 weeks.

I live near that house.

I just had the same work done (bathroom and en suite refurbished, no pipe work etc) and it was £2k for the work, and the tiles, suites etc I bought myself.

Doing a bathroom as we speak Faraday.

It's quite big - would be a bedroom originally I think. It is completely tiled wall to ceiling which we are not changing, but new floor (tiles and putting in underfloor heating) and new suite in same layout. We are also putting in a shower with pump over the bath and a few odds and ends - new shelving and door in the airing cupboard in there, new heated towel rail, folding shower screen etc.

We are paying 2k for the work, and buying suite and fittings ourselves - probably another 1.5k when it's all in. We shopped around and got suite inc taps etc on a deal from online bathrooms and other stuff from Plumbworld but it is more hassle than going to Bathstore and getting them to do the whole thing - tho that costs.

We are not reno-ing to sell but because it is tired - we have been here 10 years and it was old then, no plans to move at present. I think we would have done a much cheaper tart up if we weren't planning to stay.

we are in West London.

thanks, fircone- you must be in Ch F too! We're looking to buy in the TH catchment (of course), Knightwood or NMD. Should we proceed, any chance you could recommend your tradesman?

I would probably be able to get the hardware myself as you did but I wanted to get a ballpark figure for getting the work done.

As much as you've got!!! Decide on budget and work from there.
Get a reliable builder/plumber to quote you.

loujay · 25/03/2009 15:15

we are doing our bathroom.........putting a separate shower in too, but got the whole thing in the bath store sale 1500.
We are saving money by having walls replastered and then only tiling where we need it ie - shower cubicle and small amount by the sink as a splashback. Will then be using bathroom paint for the rest of the walls.
has worked out about 900 for workmen (plumber and plasterer)
