Anyone had fitted wardrobes put in?

We are thinking of having fitted wardrobes put in our room - it has a strange long corridor into it with sloping roof so can't have normal wardrobes. If anyone has had them done - Who by? and were they any good - and especially if they were not, please tell me - I'm trying to work out who to contact.
And do the big companies do really hard sell?
TIA

We have - done by Sigma 3. Expensive but worth every penny imo

my parents used Sharps wardrobes - the service when they came to do the fitting wasn't great - but that might just be in the york area - and it seems pretty prcey for what u get

Our chippy put ours in but they weren't cheap...about £1300 if I recall. Worth every penny though.

Why are they so expensive?

What aspect bumps the price up?

LikerabbitsBX · 02/04/2009 15:02

Lol i think £1300 is pretty cheap!

My friend had hers made by some big wardrobe company and basically just paid for the doors as the casing was just chipboard. She paid nearly £4500! And not only that a year on and both drawers have dropped!

My husband is a capenter and generally the wardrobes he builds and fits are min. £1000.

The doors and the finish are what bumps up the price, also what hinges you have, the rails inside etc. Good 180 blum hinges cost alot but are sturdy. Runners for drawers etc are expensive. You can buy cheap ones but the benefit of having the more expensive is no question.

He specialises in wardrobes and is never short of clients.

www.pmccarpentry.co.uk take a look!

Hope this helps!

PS - Yes I know all this cause I literally am like his PA! lol what wife isnt.

IwishIwasmorechocolatey · 02/04/2009 15:21

Shame he doesn't do South Wales - we want some more put in!

LikerabbitsBX · 02/04/2009 15:23

Ah thats a shame. I think wales is a little to far out. lol

EvaLongoria · 02/04/2009 15:26

Its a pity he doesnt cover oxfordshire, I am looking for someone to build me nice playroom furniture

LikerabbitsBX · 02/04/2009 15:32

Well furniture may be different. If it is free standing, then it is something that he could make and have sent up to you. Obviously going through a design together. He has made many toy chest etc.

For fitting I think you would prpb need to be closer.

Have a look at his site and perhaps send him an email with a design you like if its freestanding.

Kitsilano · 04/04/2009 09:12

Likerabbits - could he do a big storage unit for a family room? Shelves and space for a flat screen tv etc. We are in Barnes.
