Hampton, as in Peterborough?

ickletickle · 22/03/2009 08:54

or hampton, as in near kingston?

yogamat · 22/03/2009 21:56

Sorry - Hampton near kingston. Tw12. Is it a good area? As good as Teddington or Twickenham? Would love to get an overview of the place.

hampton is very nice, near the river, kingston, great shopping, good schools. pretty ordinary, but nice, london suburb. as good as the T's, not much in them. traffic around those areas is busy though, depends on what you are used to though.

all these areas do however border some rougher areas so you might want to bear that in mind.

sorry when i wrote not much in them meant not much between them, ie they are equally nice. prefer hampton though, sort of a bit more villagey.

I don't live there - we're in East Twickenham - but I go there a lot for kids activities at the Little Gym and Hampton Community College and so on. It seems really nice and I think a bit cheaper than Twickenham and Teddington. Lovely shops at Hampton Hill, with some great cafes and things on a proper High Street (much nicer than Twickenham). Lots of green space too. A drawback is transport into central London- it's what put us off when we were looking, as we both needed to commute. Trains at Hampton and Fulwell aren't as frequent as Twickenham or Richmond, and not that many options when they're not running. (Having said that, transport put us off Teddington too and loads of people commute quite happily from there!)

I live in Teddington and have lived in the area all my life. Hampton, as previous posters have said, has infrequent train services (worse than Teddington, think it's about 2 an hour) and might be a prob if you return from work late in the evening. There are good bus services in some parts of Hampton (it covers quite a big area, from the river to Apex Corner). Nurseylands is a bit rough from what I hear. The bit near the river and the Ormond Roads/Aves are good and I know a couple of people who are happy there.

Hampton Hill is generally nicer than Hampton but it's further from train stations but has good high street and buses to Richmond and Heathrow. It's got Bushy Park and an outdoor pool. I'm quite biased towards my home town so would say that Teddington is the best but know you get more for your £ in Hampton but as I say, depends on whether you rely on public transport to get about or have your own car.

Is it affected by the flightpath? (I'm up the road in TW15 so i'm not sure)

I'm in Twickenham and poss. looking to move in the area soonish. The house prices in Hampton are tempting - you do get more for your money in terms of space and garden but as has been said above, from a transport perspective it isn't ideal. Also, with the exception of Hampton Hill, I don't get much of a sense of community. Teddington would probably be my choice - better high street and excellent access to the river and parks.

I don't think the flight path is an issue in Hampton (no more so than Teddinton or Twickenham anyway).

You get them taking off but not landing, ifswim ( planes!)
