Which to me ( being libran) is a HUGE feat of decision making which feels insurmountable atm...

DP and builder will just say 'Otter what colour are we painting it? ' and expect an immediate answer

although i want to reply ' a mucky light stone colour with greyish hues neutralish though but not too green/yellow' I know that wont work

Anyone know what would be a good F and B fired earth or somesuch colour - or have a colour that they LOVE and i could pilfer!!!

I like a colour called "Heron" from Dulux trade, kind of a warm grey. My bedroom is that colour and it looks great with warm coloured woods. Perhaps a bit grey for you though.

Normally I have a F&B chart to hand but have misplaced it. If the colour existed it would probably be called "clay" or something?

blithedance · 08/03/2009 21:00

Have to say though, that testers are the only way to go with F&B, they always look different to the colour charts.

NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 21:05

thanks blithedance will look that up online now

We did buy a load of f and b pots ( VAST expense!) yesterday

i painted them onto a white piece of of paper and at the same time a grey piece of paper

no one believed they were the same colours

I painted them and I struggled!!

I really like Egyptian Cotton (I may have said that before on MN)

NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 21:24

I think so

I have it in my lounge with red & gold & dark grey sofas and it is cosy

Then I have it in my conservatory with white & pine and it is so cool & calm for the children

NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 21:29

i love it!

not grey enough or dirty enough for me though...

OP posts:
KatyMac · 08/03/2009 21:31

On a wall next to white it is quite 'dirty' almost like putty?

hellymelly · 08/03/2009 21:38

ok I am looking through my f&b chart, but the light here is not great now-anyway,maybe no.17 Light Grey- or darker than that no.6 London Stone ?

noddyholder · 08/03/2009 21:40

shaded white looks slightly stonier doesn't it?"String" may give more of a coloured effect maybe, the darker whites still look very white (!) on a large area I think, they lighten up a bit in the room, that may be the effect you are after anyway. Now what do I do about my sitting room...?

Pannacotta · 08/03/2009 22:40

WHat is the flooring and what direction does the room face? Is it sunny or dark as this will make a huge difference.
What sort of lighting do you/will you have?

NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 22:41

i like string and it is used a lot in F and B shops and looks fab on woodwork as does cord which they use a lot too..

Just a bit green for me string/cord

Helly - my sitting room is Tempted?

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 22:43

spot lights - room faces east and west - floor is a light white oak....

room errs towards darkish as opposite a wood....

walls are to be wimbourne white which is a warmish almost pb white...

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 08/03/2009 22:48

I like String, but yes it is a bit green/yellow. I have used it in various rooms facing various directions and it always looks good.
But I dont know Wimbourne WHite so feel less confident that it would work.
F&B Bone is smart, also like Old WHite, Dimity and Clunch for woodwork.

NotAnOtter · 08/03/2009 22:49

it is just a very almost pb white..

the units need to blend rather than a very deep colour ...

hellymelly · 08/03/2009 23:06

I love that pelt colour,I do! but it is too dark for my room which is fairly small and has small windows too-it is an 1830 house too so needs a soft colour.I like cinder rose but it is a bit too blue.I have twenty patches of colour on the walls and I still can't make my mind up,and then there is the rest of the house to go...

milge · 08/03/2009 23:26

I have just painted my kitchen units with this from Fired Earth. But I do have oak floors and doorknobs, with goldy brown granite worktops.

blithedance · 09/03/2009 13:45

pb white?

Actually on the Fired earth website, if you look at their ready painted kitchen furniture there are some good colours in New England range - one of them is Dutch White but the others are a green and two stone tints, obviously available in cans.

By the way I painted a kitchen in F&B's Matchstick - it definitely gave the impression of "cream" rather than "stone". Was lovely, but you could eliminate that one. Lime White IIRC will look white, it's quite pale.

NotAnOtter · 09/03/2009 20:26

blithedance pb = pure brilliant

helly melly you sound like me - i love choosing colours but at the same time it is torture - a kind of pain/pleasure thing

milge i like it have ordered a sample pot
