Windproof Fencing

Neighbours are being shirty about our 4 fence panels felled by wind (some recently , some less so). Doesn't affect us directly as that part of the garden still needs a fair bit doing to it and we have another area enclosed for the kids. The boundary is about 100' long in total, but currently 3 panels are missing at one section and 1 at another. The remaining panels are 6' high but as the wind gets so strong across the area we thought it would be better to have lower ones, perhaps with some gaps to allow the air through. Any suggestions as to what might work best, preferably inexpensively !

I think very strong trellis is better (or a combination of the solid panels and trellis) as the gaps in trellis filter the wind.
You may also need strong posts and trellis frame/capping etc to make it more durable.

Make sure you have good posts, well dug/cemented in - will stop the panels blowing about so much, so they are less likely to blow down.

If you want privacy, but to let the wind through, you can do what my DH calls "hit & miss" fencing - if you picture the posts, you put one plank on the first side, then the next plank on the other side, alternating all the way up. So if you look at it straight-on it is completely covered, but there are quite big gaps the wind can blow through IYSWIM.
